The Yarraman Park-based stallion I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) sired his 61st stakes winner on Saturday as Vamos Bebe (4 m ex Hurtle Myrtle by Dane Shadow) ran out a ready winner of the Hallmark Stud Handicap (Listed, 1200m) at Ellerslie.

The Jamie Richards-trained lightly-raced four-year-old mare was asked for her effort with 200 metres to travel and showed a good turn off foot to hold off the late run of Vigor Winner (Declaration Of War), eventually beating her by half a length, while Madam Hass (Per Incanto) was another three-quarters of a length away in third.

“She’s a promising mare who we thought was the best of our three-year-olds last year, but she had a few immaturity issues and just needed some time.

“She’s a very valuable commodity now with the black type to her name and the breeding she has on her side.”

Richards said Vamos Bebe would return to Ellerslie for her next run which is likely to be in the Concorde Handicap (Gr 3, 1200m) on Karaka Million night on January 23.

Purchased by Paul Willets Bloodstock for $200,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in 2018 from the draft of her breeder, Segenhoe Stud, the mare is out of 2011 Myer Classic Stakes (registered as Empire Rose Stakes) (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Hurtle Myrtle (Dane Shadow), making her a sister to dual Group 3 winner Holyfield.

Further back this is the same family as Listed winner Whisper Bay (Royal Academy) - the dam of fellow stakes scorer Indian Thunder (Manhattan Rain).

In 2019 Hurtle Myrtle produced a filly by Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice), before foaling a filly by Newgate Farm-based sire Deep Field (Northern Meteor).

I Am Invincible also broke down more barriers on Saturday, as he sired his first winner in Japan, when Australian-bred Jazz Etude (2 f ex Mumbai Rock by Fastnet Rock) landed a race over 1600 metres at Nakayama and in the process handed her sister a timely update before she goes through the ring at next month’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The filly beat Ballade In Milano (Da non Ballade) by a length and a quarter, while Shining Mars (Fenomeno) was another seven lengths away in third.

Purchased by Katsumi Yoshida for $650,000 at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Jazz Etude is out of the winning Fastnet Rock (Danehill) mare Mumbai Rock, who is herself a daughter of Grade 1 winner Mani Bhavan (Storm Boot).

Further back this is the same family as Grade 2 scorer Hear The Ghost (Ghostzapper) and Listed winner Closing Bell (Tapit).

Coolmore Stud will offer the filly’s sister as Lot 578 at next month’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and Mumbai Rock, who has now produced two winners from three foals to race, has most recently foaled a filly by Widden Stud-based sire Zoustar (Northern Meteor) and she was covered by the same stallion this year.
