Shocking and Sepoy sire new stakes winners on Boxing Day
Rich Hill Stud-based stallion Shocking (Street Cry) sired his 12th stakes winner on Saturday when the Patrick Payne-trained Defibrillate (6 g ex Our Chickaroonie by Groom Dancer) landed the Lord Stakes (Listed, 1700m) at Caulfield.
Last seen running fifth at Pakenham, the six-year-old gelding finished strongly to beat Paradee (Epaulette) by half a length, while Pancho (Dissident) by a head.
Defibrillate is out of Our Chickaroonie (Groom Dancer) making him a half-brother to Listed winner Italian Princess (Bertolini).
Shocking has three lots catalogued at Book 1 of next month’s New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka 2021 sale.
Meanwhile, the Darley-based sire Sepoy (Elusive Quality) was handed his 21st stakes winner when the James Cummings-trained Pandemic (4 g ex Cataclysm by Marauding) landed the Christmas Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Caulfield.
The four-year-old gelding was last sighted landing a race over 1100 metres at Rosehill on December 5 and he carried on his good form when beating Brave Song (Your Song) by a length and three-quarters, while William Thomas (Nicconi) was another nose away in third.
Pandemic is out of Listed-placed mare Cataclysm, making him a half-brother to 2014 Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Earthquake (Exceed And Excel) and Listed scorer Palomares (Commands).
Cataclysm herself is a half-sister to Group 2 winner El Cambio (Commands) and Listed scorer Complicate (Commands) as well as the dam of Listed winner Excellent Reward (Exceed And Excel).
In 2018 Cataclysm foaled a colt by fellow Darley sire Kermadec (Teofilo) and he is called Huon and is unraced. The mare produced a colt by Epaulette (Commands) in 2019.
