Not A Single Doubt filly impresses on debut for Neasham and looks set for 2YO Classic
The Annabel Neasham-trained Queen Of Wizardry (2 f Not A Single Doubt - Miss Hufflepuff by Encosta De Lago) displayed her credentials for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) when she made a winning debut over 1200 metres at Eagle Farm on Saturday and in the process handed her Sebring (More Than Ready) half-sister a timely update ahead of her selling at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale later this month.
Ridden by Stephanie Thornton, the daughter of Not A Single Doubt (Redoute's Choice) showed an impressive turn of foot to beat Win Burn (Shooting To Win) by a long neck, while Ranch Hand (Fastnet Rock) - who was sent off the hot favourite - finished another neck away in third.
"Being by Not A Single Doubt she was always going to hit the line well and with such a big stride, we knew she definitely would want further," Thornton said.
"I was in a bit of trouble halfway down the straight. I just needed a bit of daylight and although I had the back of Ranch Hand he didn't take me where I wanted to go.
"Once I got to the outside she just let down brilliantly.
"On paper it looked as though the main speed had come out but whether or not that got into a few people's heads thinking we should go forward.
"She jumped well but didn't have the speed to go with them, but with the speed up front we ended up getting the perfect run.
"She certainly didn't act like a two-year-old. She knew what she was doing and she will only get better."
Queen Of Wizardry's next start will be the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) providing she pulls up well from Saturday's race. Favourite Ranch Hand's Magic Millions campaign however looks to be over having had every chance but failing to fire and finishing third.
Purchased by owners Aquis Farm for $400,000 at last year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Tyreel Stud draft, the Wallings Bloodstock-bred Queen Of Wizardry is the third foal and first victor out of three-time winning Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Miss Hufflepuff.
Bought for $470,000 by Belmont Bloodstock and Tyreel Stud at the 2017 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, Miss Hufflepuff herself is a daughter of Irish Listed scorer Miss Helga (Alzao), making her a sister to Hong Kong Listed scorer Liberator and stakes-placed mare Pink Siris, the dam of Group 2 winner Etana (Shamus Award).
Further afield this is the same family as Grade 3 scorer Alexis (Alzao) and Listed scorer Mike Fox (Giant's Causeway).
Tyreel Stud will offer the filly's aforementioned Sebring filly at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale as Lot 549, while she produced a filly The Autumn Sun (Redoute's Choice) and she has most recently been covered by Yes Yes Yes (Rubick).
Arrowfield Stud Not A Single Doubt - who was pensioned last year - and has 17 lots at Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale which gets underway on January 12.
