Juvenile son of Manhattan Rain makes winning debut at Geelong
The Cindy Alderson-trained Jigsaw (2 c Manhattan Rain - Demandz by Lonhro) got his career off the best possible start when shedding his maiden tag on the first attempt over 1135 metres at Geelong.
Bred by the Alderson family, the two-year-old son of Manhattan Rain (Encosta De Lago) dominated proceedings, showing a good turn of foot to draw three and a quarter lengths clear of Artorius - who is by Newgate Farm-based first-season sire Flying Artie (Artie Schiller). Benz Baron (Written Tycoon) was a further length away in third.
The colt is out of three time-winning Lonhro (Octagonal) mare Demandz, making him a half-brother to one other winner.
Demandz herself is a daughter of Listed winner Loaded Command (Commands) and further afield this is the same family as stakes winner Black Satin (Linacre) - the dam of Grade 1 scorer Czaravich (Nijinksy), while this is also the family of 2012 Stradbroke (Gr 1, 1400m) winner Mid Summer Music (Oamaru Force).
After missing to Woodside Park Stud-based Rich Enuff (Written Tycoon) in 2019, Demandz foaled a colt by his barnmate Tosen Stardom (Deep Impact) the following season who died and she has most recently been covered by another Woodside Park-based sire in Foxwedge (Fastnet Rock).
Manhattan Rain - who is best known as the sire of 2017 Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner She Will Reign - was relocated to Blue Gum Farm in 2017 and he has six lots catalogued at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale which gets underway in Melbourne on February 28.
