Newgate Farm-based first-season stallion Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon) sired his second first-crop winner on Friday as his Gary Portelli-trained daughter Hi Hi Hi (2 f ex Cottesmore by Duporth) ran out an impressive winner over 1200 metres at Canterbury.

The two-year-old showed a potent turn of foot to beat Larkspur Run (Shamardal) by three and a half lengths, while Contentedly (More Than Ready) was another head away in third.

“She’s a lovely filly,” said winning jockey Kathy O’Hara.

“Gary has always had a big opinion of her, although I think she’ll be a better three year-old than two year-old.

“She was just miles too good for them tonight.”

Bred by Victorian based Chesapeake Thoroughbreds, Hi Hi Hi was bought for $145,000 from the Princess Park draft at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale by Hall of Fame Bloodstock and is the first winner for Cottesmore (Duporth).

Cottesmore herself is a daughter of As Simple As That (Grand Lodge) making her a half-sister to Group 2 winner Lonhspresso (Lonhro), while further back the filly hails from the same family as Grade 3 scorer Millennium Diamond (Royal Academy).

Cottesmore died last year and Hi Hi Hi was a final living foal.

Hi Hi Hi joins Vienna Cruise as Winning Rupert’s other winner and he has 18 lots catalogued at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, which gets underway on Tuesday.
