Newgate Farm's first season sires - Flying Artie (Artie Schiller), Extreme Choice (Not A Single Double), Capitalist (Written Tycoon) - were all represented by new metropolitan winners on Saturday taking their respective total of winners sired to date to four, four and three respectively.

Artorius (2 c Flying Artie -  Gracie's Lass by Redoute's Choice) stormed to a most impressive four and half length victory at Sandown Hillside prompting his trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman to consider a possible tilt at the Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) in an attempt to emulate his sire.

Artorius relished the wide open spaces of the Sandown Hillside track and the step up to 1300 metres to leave his rivals in his wake.

He grabbed the lead out wide with 300 metres left to go and went on to win the two-year-old handicap by four and a half lengths, defeating El Rocko (Fastnet Rock) with Picarones (Shooting To Win) a further nose away third.

TAB fixed odds markets reacted to the victory by tightening the winner from $51 to $15 for the Blue Diamond Stakes.

Co-trainer Sam Freedman said the Group One race was back in play for the son of Flying Artie but they would have to work out whether it was the best option.

"Whether we head towards a Blue Diamond, I'm not sure about the 1200 metres as he might be more of a 1400 metre horse," Freedman said.

Artorius was purchased by Anthony Freedman Racing and Blue Sky Bloodstock from the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Vinery Stud for $120,000. He is out of the unraced Redoute's Choice (Danehill) mare Gracie's Lass who is herself a daughter of Listed winner and Grade 1 placed More Than Ready (Southern Halo) mare Grace And Power, dam of Darley Classic (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Delectation (Shamardal).

Equally as impressive was the Michael and Richard Freedman-trained Stay Inside (2 c Extreme Choice - Nothin Leica Storm by Anabaa) who scored a powerhouse debut win at Randwick.

The colt was just the second juvenile Michael And Richard Freedman have saddled up in Sydney this season and both have won.

Tiger Of Malay, also by Extreme Choice, took out the Kirkham Plate for the stable in October.

Michael Freedman said it was a pity Extreme Choice had fertility issues, producing just 48 live foals from his first crop, as his progeny had shown good ability.

"I wish they were making a few more of them. We've had two two-year-olds to the races this season and they'e both horses by Extreme Choice," Freedman said.

"With Tiger Of Malay and this bloke, and we've got another couple at home, they've all got great actions so it's just a shame he's not as fertile as we'd all like."

Stay Inside showed early speed to camp off the leading pair before pouncing in the straight.

When Robbie Dolan asked for a supreme effort inside the final furlong, Stay Inside accelerated clear to put two and three quarter lengths on Headliner (Star Turn) with Ashema (I Am Invincible) another half-head away.

Freedman said he had expected a competitive performance but was surprised the colt showed such dominance.

"We've always had a decent opinion of him. He probably hasn't been totally obvious but he's one of those two-year-olds that the longer he's been in work the better he has gone," Freedman said.

"He's in at the right time of year now and if he comes through today alright then we'll maybe aim a bit higher with him.

"He is very professional too. He hardly turned a hair here today which is always a good sign with these young colts particularly."

A $200,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchased by Freedman Brothers/Rick Connolly Bloodstock from the draft of Newgate Farm, Stay Inside immediately firmed with TAB fixed odds from $101 to $26 for the Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper.

Stay Inside is out of winning mare Nothin Leica Storm (Anabaa) while this is also the family of Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Wonderful World (Agnes World), who also finished third in the Blue Diamond Stakes.

Whilst at Doomben the Kris Lees-trained Mystic Gem (2 f Capitalist - Fine Mist by Good Journey) improved from a recent Wyong barrier trial to also score on debut by half a length over Rubiquitous (Rubicam) with neck further back to Hamlet Von Snitzel (Snitzel) in third.

Mystic Gem races in the colours of the Throsby Family and was a $125,000 purchase at the 2020 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Sledmere Stud.

Mystic Gem becomes the first winner out of the seven-time winner and stakes placed mare Fine Mist (Good Journey).

Arrowfield Stud shuttler Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) sits at the head of the leading first season sires table in Australia by earnings with Capitalist second, Flying Artie third and Extreme Choice fourth.
