Book 1 of the Perth Yearling Sale posted solid figures on Thursday and later on in the day Medaglia d'Oro and Empire Maker sired new stakes winners at Meydan

1. The two day Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale commenced on Thursday with the market holding ground on last year's figures. The average of $71,131 was marginally down (0.2%) while the median of $55,000 was unchanged. WA based buyers accounted for 88% of the aggregate of $8,493,000 but there was good representation from the Eastern states and Hong Kong.

2. Newgate stallions lead the way with the top lot being a Russian Revolution colt who realised $325,000 from leading vendors Western Breeders Alliance. The joint-second top lot was a Capitalist colt who sold to trainer Lindsey Smith for $220,000. 

3. Three Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) runners will have to be re-examined by Racing Victoria vets after being found lame on Thursday including leading chances Enthaar and Dosh.

4. First season sire Kiss And Make Up sired his first winner when General Phelps won on debut at Grafton on Thursday.

5. Former shuttle sire Medagalia d’Oro sired his 149th stakes winner when New Trails won the Curlin Stakes (Listed, 2000m) at Meydan.

6. Empire Maker sired his 64th stakes winner when Mnasek impressively took out the UAE Oaks (Gr 3, 1850m).

7. Summer Romance, a Kingman half-sister to Group 1 winner Rizeena and close relation to Puissance De Lune, returned to form with decisive victory in the Balanchine Stakes (Gr 1, 1800m) at Meydan. Summer Romance is one of Kingman’s 29 stakes winners and 13 Group winners.
