Blackfriars and Vespa add new stakes winners & Tavistock and Zed add new Group winners
- Millie Fox Stakes to Subpoenaed
Having landed the Golden Pendant Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) in September, the Chris Waller-trained Subpoenaed (4 m Rip Van Winkle - Notice Received by O'Reilly) added a second stakes race to her CV when she landed the Millie Fox Stakes (Gr 2, 1300m) at Rosehill. The four-year-old mare is one of 32 stakes winners for the late sire Rip Van Winkle (Galileo).
- Paradee adds Peter Young Stakes to CV
The Danny O’Brien-trained Paradee (4 m Epaulette - Icy Heels by Medaglia d'Oro) secured her second stakes win when she landed the Peter Young Stakes (Gr 2, 1800m) at Caulfield. The four-year-old mare is one of 15 stakes winners for Darley stallion Epaulette (Commands).
- 42 for Blackfriars
The late stallion Blackfriars (Danehill) sired his 42nd stakes winner on Saturday as his son Last Of The Line (4 g ex Catch The Cat by Royal Abjar) landed the Detonator Stakes (Listed, 1800m) at Ascot. Former champion WA sire Blackfriars died in 2017.
- 16th Group winner for Tavistock
In winning the Lord Reims Stakes (Gr 3, 2600m) at Morphettville on Saturday, the Symon Wilde-trained Tralee Rose (4 m Tavistock - Star of Tralee, by Zabeel) became the 16th Group winner for the late Cambridge Stud-based sire Tavistock. Of Tavistock’s 26 stakes winners, Tralee Rose is one of eight to be out of Zabeel (Sir Tristram) mares. Tavistock died in 2019.
- Second stakes win for Sacramento
The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Sacramento (4 g Pierro - Alzora by Redoute's Choice) landed his second stakes race when he took out the Parramatta Cup (Listed, 1900m). The four-year-old gelding won the St Leger (Listed, 2800m) last year and is one of 24 stakes winners for Coolmore Stud-based sire Pierro (Lonhro).
- Tenth Group winner for Zed
Grangewilliam Stud-based Zed (Zabeel) was handed his tenth Group winner as Robusto (6 m ex Adriatico by Stravinsky) landed the Avondale Cup (Gr 2, 2400m) at Ellerslie on Saturday. Zed’s stakes winners are headed by Group 1-winning pair Verry Elleegant and Survived.
- First for Vespa
Wellfield Lodge-based sire Vespa (Elusive Quality) was handed his first stakes winner when Chokito (3 f ex Pretty Woman by Pins) landed the Southland Guineas (Listed, 1600m) at Ascot. Vespa stood at stud for a fee of NZ$5,000 (plus GST) in 2020.
- Son of Siyouni wins second stakes races
Wally (4 g ex Full Of Beauty, by Motivator) won his second stakes race when he decisively won the Prix Saonois (Listed, 1600m) at Cagnes-Sur-Mer in France. Siyouni was represented by his third stakes horses in Australia from only five runners when his son Direct (2 c Upfront, by War Front) finished a good third in the Silver Slipper Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday. He has two lots catalogued in the upcoming Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.
