Following Regal Power’s (Pierro) poor run in the Peter Young Stakes (Gr 2, 1800m), co-trainers Grant and Alana Williams have decided to pull the pin on the gelding’s preparation and he will therefore not defend his All-Star Mile (1600m) title on March 13.

The son of Pierro (Lonhro) beat one rival home when he resumed in the Group 2 last Saturday and blood tests revealed some minor issues leading to the co-trainers decision to spell him in Western Australia.

"I wasn't happy with his run and I wasn't happy with him and then we got the bloods," Grant Williams told Racing.com. "They were a little bit out - not much - but at that level you have to be right so we'll bring him home and look after him."

Owner Bob Peters said it was a consolation of sorts to find a possible reason for his lacklustre run.

"He didn't try really," he said. "He just gave it away.”
