Nicconi filly produces impressive performance at Murray Bridge

Scorched Earth (Nicconi) landed the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) in emphatic style at Murray Bridge on Saturday. 

The John Moloney-trained filly, who finished second in a Blue Diamond Prelude (f) (Gr 2, 1100m), put her rivals to bed in a matter of strides to beat Lady Of Honour (No Nay Never) by five and a quarter lengths. 

“She ran good in both the clockwise race at Ballarat and then the Prelude,” Moloney said.

“She jumped and led last time.”

Purchased by her trainer for $90,000 at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Lyndhurst Farm draft, the filly is out of unraced Exceed And Excel (Danehill) mare Scorched, who is herself a sister to Group 3 winner Furnaces. 

Further back this is the same pedigree as dual Group 1-winner Melito (Redoute’s Choice) and Group 3 winner and now Arrowfield Stud-based sire Pariah (Redoute’s Choice). 

In 2019 Scorched produced a colt by late sire Sebring (More Than Ready) and she was covered by another son of More Than Ready (Southern Halo) in Better Than Ready in September. 

Nicconi - who will stand in Victoria next season - has nine lots catalogued at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, which begins on Sunday.
