Tycoon Humma proves too strong in Very Special Kids Plate

Newgate Farm’s first-season sire Capitalist (Written Tycoon) sired his second stakes winner on Saturday as his daughter Tycoon Humma (2 f ex Humma Mumma by Bel Esprit) retained her unblemished record in the Very Special Kids Plate (registered as Festival Of Racing Stakes) (Listed, 1000m) at Flemington.

Last seen making a winning debut over 1000 metres at Bendigo earlier in the month, the filly flew home to beat Kallos (Medaglia d’Oro) by a nose, while Wanaroo (Wandjina) was a further length and a quarter away in third.

John McArdle, who also trained the filly’s Group 3-winning half-sister Humma Humma (Denman) - said Tycoon Humma would now be sent for a spell.

"She's a nice filly but I think she's looking for the paddock now," McArdle said.

"She over-raced a bit today and Jamie (Mott) did a great job. He knows her, he switched her off.

"She was untidy out of the gates but he got her to settle as well as he could. Probably wasn't as electric as what she was first-up but it was a really solid win."

Purchased by Redgum Racing for $240,000 at the 2020 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from the Flinders Park draft, the filly is out of four-time winner Humma Mumma (Bel Esprit), making her a half-sister to Group 3 scorer Humma Humma (Denman) and she is herself a half-sister to Listed scorer Vignette (Spectrum).

Humma Mumma’s filly by Widden Stud’s Zoustar (Northern Meteor) will be offered by Flinders Park at this year’s Premier Yearling Sale and she is catalogued as Lot 87 to sell on Sunday.

After missing to Brazen Beau (I Am Invincible) in 2020, Humma Mumma has most recently been covered by Darley shuttler Blue Point (Shamardal).

The filly joins Profiteer as the Capitalist’s other stakes winner, while the stallion has sired six first-crop winners in total, including seven stakes placegetters and he is sitting at the top of the leading first-season sire championship by both number of winners and earnings with his prize money over $300,000 clear of nearest rival Shalaa (Invincible Spirit).

Capitalist is represented by 17 lots at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, which gets underway at Oaklands Junction on Sunday. Capitalist is the leading first season sire of Australia by earnings, stakes winner and winners.
