Daughter of Needs Further undergone surgery
Inaugural All-Star Mile (1600m) winner Mystic Journey (Needs Further) has sustained an injury that will require surgery following her fifth in Saturday’s Blamey Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Flemington, ending her hopes of winning another All-Star Mile.
Owner Wayne Roser confirmed to Racing.com that the Adam Trinder-trained mare had sustained bone chips and bruising in a knee.
"It's very unfortunate, we knew something was wrong because she didn't finish off (in the Blamey) as she normally does," Roser said.
"She's got chips and bruising in her knee so that will unfortunately be her campaign this time so she'll be out for four months after the operation which we hope is on Thursday (in Tasmania) and then will allow her time to recoup.
"We've spoken to the surgeon already and just talking to Adam (Trinder), I said 'she (Mystic Journey) wouldn't cope in Victoria without him (Adam)' and he said, 'she would but I wouldn't' so we're taking her back and he'll monitor her every day.
"It's very disappointing because she looked so well in the mounting yard. Even with these injuries she finished two and half lengths from the winner (Star of the Seas) and if she was primed and not injured she would have won it quite easily I would have thought."
