He's Xceptional breaks maiden at Cranbourne

Newhaven Park Stud-based stallion Xtravagant (Pentire) got his first winner on the board courtesy of He's Xceptional’s (2 g ex She's A Danica by Sebring) impressive victory in a maiden plate over 1000 metres at Cranbourne on Friday.

The gelding finished tenth behind Sneaky Five (Fastnet Rock) in the Inglis Banner 2YO Stakes (RL, 1000m) in October and he has been gelded since that last run.

Trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, He's Xceptional jumped well and was ridden hard to the lead in the early stages. As the field came round the turn, the rivals began to queue up behind the two-year-old but he picked up impressively to beat Edge Of Reward (Reward For Effort) by two and a half lengths. Askew (Brazen Beau) was another three-quarters of a length away in third.

He's Xceptional was purchased by Clarke Bloodstock for $40,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the Newhaven Park draft and he becomes the second winner out of three-time-winning Sebring (More Than Ready) mare She’s A Danica.

The gelding’s third dam is three time Group 1-winning mare Ballroom Babe (Citidancer) - the dam of Group 2 scorer Just Dancing (Fusaichi Pegasus) and Group 3 winner Tahni Girl (Redoute’s Choice), who in turn produced fellow Group 3 scorer and Alwyn Park Stud-based stallion Maschino (Encosta De Lago) and Listed winner Kentucky Breeze (Pierro).

A sister to He’s Xceptional was purchased by trainer Tony McEvoy and Damon Gabbedy’s Belmont Bloodstock for $150,000 at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale last week. Last spring She’s A Danica missed to Telemon Thoroughbreds-based stallion Sidestep (Exceed And Excel) and she was once again covered by Xtravagant in September.

Newhaven will offer two colts by Xtravagant at the upcoming Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale next month.
