Eduardo shocks Nature Strip in Challenge
Son of Host wins second Group 2 in track record time
Eduardo (7 g Host - Blushing by Fantastic Light) upset short-priced favourite Nature Strip (Nicconi) fighting back strongly to win the Challenge Stakes (Gr 2, 1000m) by a nose in a new track record time of 55.20s. The gelded son of Host (Hussonet), who was winning his third race at Group Two level, gave trainer Joe Pride his fourth winner in the race. Eduardo is one of six stakes winners for his sire Host who stood in Australia for 12 seasons between 2008 and 2019 but was euthanised in January 2020.

Vulpine comes of age in Weonna Girl
Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) sired his 108th stakes winner and ninth for the current season in Australia when Vulpine (4 m ex Elusive Leone by Elusive Quality) led throughout to win the Wenona Girl Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Randwick. The $340,000 Magic Million Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by Andew Williams Bloodstock / Millsy Girls Racing / BK Racing is this first stakes winner for her dam Elusive Leone, who is a winning daughter of Leone Chiara (Lion Hunter). Earlier on the card Wild Ruler (3 c Snitzel - Gypsy Robin by Daaher) won the Fireball Stakes (Listed, 1100m) first up from a spell signalling he is in for a good campaign.
Second Group 3 for Missybeel
Quinella for Bjorn Baker in Aspiration
The Bjorn Baker-trained Missybeel (6 m Savabeel ex Sitting Pretty) scored a narrow yet determined on-pace victory in the Aspiration Quality (Gr 3, 1600m), defeating her stablemate She Ideal (Dundeel) by a nose, to register her second win at Group Three level. Missybeel, who is out of a sister to the dam of Amarelinha (Savabeel), is one of 20 stakes winners bred on the successful Savabeel - O’Reilly (Last Tycoon) cross that is headed by four Group 1 winners. Mo’unga, another bred on the same cross, was an unlucky runner up in the Randwick Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) earlier on the card.

La Rocque continues good run for McArdle
La Rocque (2 f ex Bianslick by Bianconi) scored a strong win the Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Flemington to remain undefeated after two starts and give her sire Kuroshio (Exceed And Excel) his third stakes winner. La Rocque, who was bred by her trainer John McArdle, who also trained her dam, continues a good run for her stable with two-year-olds after last week's win by Tycoon Humma (Capitalist) in the Festival Of Racing Stakes (Listed, 1000m). McArdle indicated that La Rocque will join Tycoon Humma in the spelling paddock with a view to a spring campaign for both fillies.
Two new stakes winner for Dream Ahead
Former shuttle sire takes tally to 31
The underrated former shuttle sire Dream Ahead (Diktat) sired two new stakes winners on Saturday taking his total number of stakes winners to 31. Marboosha (3 f ex Boomex by Exceed And Excel), a fourth generation homebred for owner breeders Emirates Park Stud, burst through late on to win the Incognitus Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Flemington. Later on in the day meanwhile, Western Temple (7 g ex Western Jewel by Jeune) won the Bunbury Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Bunbury. Dream Ahead shuttled to Australia for seven seasons between 2012 and 2018 and his 2021 fee at Haras de Grandcamp in France is advertised at €12,000.

One of ten stakes winner for Shamus Award
Tearaway leader Sovereign Award (5 m Shamus Award - Sovereign Charm by Show A Heart) scored a most impressive victory in the Matron Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) at Flemington, her third at Group Three level. The underrated Rosemont Stud-based sire Shamus Award (Snitzel) currently sits in equal ten sire of Australia by stakes winners with five this season in Australia. He is the sire of ten stakes winners overall.
Mount Popa gives Maxios his ninth stakes winner
Third stakes winner in Australia for son of Monsun
Maxios (Monsu) sired his ninth stakes winner and third in Australia when Mount Popa (6 g ex Mimalia by Silver Hawk) won the Randwick City Stakes (Listed, 2000m) at Randwick. Mount Popa, who was bred by the Niarcos Family who raced Maxios, was a €200,000 Arqana Autumn Sale purchase by Stephen Hillen Bloodstock in 2019. Maxios’ stakes winners are headed by Preis der Diana (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Diamanta, his other Australian stakes winners are Master Of Wine and Skymax.

Daughter of Written Tycoon prevails in the TC Breeders Classic
The Daniel Morton-trained Kissonallforcheeks (3 f Written Tycoon - Rosie Rocket by Blackfriars) added a second Listed victory to her record when she landed the TC Breeders Classic (Listed, 1400m) at Bunbury on Saturday. The daughter of Written Tycoon (Iglesia) opened her stakes account when she landed the Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic (Listed, 1400m) last December and this latest win takes her record to six wins from 11 starts for prize-money earnings of $412,140. The filly is one of 42 stakes winners for Arrowfield Stud-based Written Tycoon and he is sitting second behind the now pensioned Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) in the leading sires table in Australia by earnings.

Dane Shadow (Danewin) sired his 11th stakes winner when Paddy’s Shadow (6 m Pattie Me Lass by Lords A Leaping) won the Bunbury Cup (Listed, 2000m) on Saturday.

(IRE) Two new stakes winners for Speightstown
Takes total of stakes winners to 122
The Joseph O’Brien-trained My Generation (3 f Speightstown - Louvakhova by Maria’s Mon) earmarked herself as a filly for the future showing a striking turn of foot to break her maiden at her second start in the Patton Stakes (Listed, 7f) at Dundalk on Friday night. In doing so, My Generation gave her sire Speightstown (Gone West) his 121st stakes winner. My Generation’s half-brother Crossfirehurricane (Kitten’s Joy), also trained by Joseph O’Brien, won the 2020 running of the Patton Stakes. The Doug Watson-trained Midnight Sands (4 h ex It's Midnight by Shamardal) took Speightstown’s stakes tally to 122 when he landed the Burj Nahaar (Gr 3, 1600m) at Meydan on Saturday. Speightstown is based at WinStar Farm in Kentucky where his 2021 fee is advertised at US$90,000.

Kingman sires 30th stakes winner and first in Japan
Meikei Yell (3 f Mikki Isle - Shiroinger by Harbinger) and Elizabeth Tower (3 f Kingman - Turfdonna by Doyen) dead-heated in the Tulip Sho (Japanese 1,000 Guineas Trial) (Gr 2, 1600m) at Hanshin on Saturday. Meikei Yell was a former stakes winner for the former shuttle sire Mikki Isle (Deep Impact) while Elizabeth Tower gives her sire Kingman his 30th stakes winner and first in Japan. Elizabeth Tower is a daughter of the Preis der Diana (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Turfdonna (Doyen), who was raced by Australian Bloodstock and trained by Andreas Wohler.

Apollo One holds on bravely in Spring Cup Stakes
Former shuttler Equiano (Acclamation) sired his 18th stakes winner on Saturday when the Peter Charalambous-trained Apollo One (3 c Boonga Roogeta by Tobougg) beat off the fast-finishing Magallan (Kingman) in the Spring Cup Stakes (Listed, 7f) at Lingfield. Apollo One showed promise as a two-year-old winning on two occasions and he also finished third in the Solario Stakes (Gr 3, 7f). Equiano shuttled to Swettenham Stud for five seasons and now resides exclusively at the National Stud in Newmarket.

Canvassed takes out Mahab Al Shimaal Stakes
Having finished third in the Jebel Ali Mile Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) in January, Canvassed (6 g ex Painter's Pride by Dansili) finally got his head in front in stakes company when he landed the Mahab Al Shimaal (Gr 3, 1200m) at Meydan on Saturday and in the process became stakes winner number 152 for late Darley sire Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway). The lightly-raced six-year-old gelding is out of Painter’s Pride (Dansili), who is herself a daughter of Peinture Bleue (Alydar) - the dam of dual Group 1-winning champion and successful sire Peintre Celebre (Nureyev). Shamardal died in April last year.

Popular son of Whipper prevails in Jebel Hatta
Popular gelding Lord Glitters (8 g ex Lady Glitters by Homme de Loi) added a second Group 1 to his CV when he landed the Jebel Hatta (Gr 1, 1800m) at Meydan on Saturday. A winner of the Queen Anne Stakes (Gr 1, 1m) at Royal Ascot in 2019, Lord Glitters landed the Singspiel Stakes (Gr 2, 1800m) on January 21 and was last seen finished third in the Al Rashidiya Stakes (Gr 2, 1800m). Lord Glitters is one of 27 stakes winners and four Group 1 winners for Haras de Treban-based stallion Whipper (Miesque's Son).

Final Song lands Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint
The Saeed Bin Suroor-trained Final Song (4 m ex Rahiyah by Rahy) provided Yeomanstown Stud-based sire Dark Angel (Acclamation) with his 70th stakes winner when he landed the Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint (Gr 3, 1200m) at Meydan. Dark Angel’s progeny is headed by seven Group 1 winners, including Harry Angel, who shuttles to Darley’s Kelvinside base.
