Arrowfield Stud-raced filly Miravalle wins Kembla Classic
The late Arrowfield Stud-based breeding shaping stallion Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) was handed his 178th stakes winner on Friday when the Mark Newnham-trained Miravalle (3 f ex Condesaar by Xaar) landed the Kembla Classic (Gr 3, 1600m) and in the process handed jockey Tom Sherry his first victory at black-type level.
Owned by Arrowfield Stud, the three-year-old filly had to shoulder her way off the fence in the straight but she was up to the task, bursting between runners late to defeat Elizabeel (Power) by three-quarters of a length with Pippali (Ilovethiscity) another nose away in third.
Fourth in the Wakeful Stakes (Gr 2, 2000m) and VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) in the spring, Miravalle was coming off an unplaced first-up effort in the Surround Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) and Newnham said he had subsequently worked her over jumps to put some speed back into her legs.
"That's what we've been trying to get into her, she has jumped at everything this week," Newnham said.
"She showed a little bit of dash today, which was good."
Purchased by Rick Worthington for $460,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in 2019 from the Kulani Park draft, the filly is out of twice raced Xaar (Zafonic) mare Condesaar, who was purchased by Rosemont Stud for $320,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2018.
Condesaar is the dam of four other winners headed by dual Group 1 winner Yankee Rose (All American), while she is also the grandam of Listed winner Isotope (Deep Field). Condesaar herself is a half-sister to 2007 New Zealand Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Redoute’s Dancer (Redoute’s Choice).
Meanwhile, further back this is the same pedigree as Group 1 winner Condessa (Condorcet) and fellow elite level winner Tout Seul (Ali-Royal).
Condesaar’s two-year-old is a colt by Medaglia d’Oro (El Prado) and he is called Imminent Risk and is unraced. A sister to Miravalle was purchased by Justin Bahen and Matt Laurie Racing for $500,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale earlier this year and last spring she foaled a filly by Rosemont Stud-based sire Starcraft (Soviet Star), while she has most recently been covered by Vinery Stud’s new stallion Exceedance (Exceed And Excel).
Redoute’s Choice died in 2019 and nine yearlings from his final crop are set to be offered at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, which gets underway on April 7.
