After riding Addeybb (Pivotal) in a gallop at Canterbury on Tuesday, jockey Tom Marquand is confident the son of Pivotal (Polar Falcon) is on track to defend his Ranvet Stakes (registered as Rawson Stakes) (Gr 1, 2000m) crown at Rosehill on Saturday.

“I jumped on him this morning, quickly, and he had a nice blow out,” Marquand told RSN.

“He feels great. He takes it all in his stride well. I guess it’s hard to know until race day whether he is in complete tip top condition.

“As we know horses can’t show you everything until they get to the races some times.”

Addeybb landed his first career Group 1 in the Ranvet Stakes last year, which he duly followed up with a victory in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) and then added a third elite level race to his record in the Champion Stakes (Gr 1, 1m2f) at Ascot in October and Marquand believes he has improved since last year.

“From what he did at the back end in England, you would have to say he’s improved as a horse at the end of the year than what he was at the start of the year,” he said.

“It’s tough to come to the other side of the world again and repeat what he did again.

“Fingers crossed it can all go to plan again.”
