Bjorn Baker-trained colt Keith breaks his maiden at Canberra on debut
Keith (2 c ex Tweet by Magic Albert) became the third winner for Newgate Farm's first season sire Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon) when he broke his maiden on debut at Canberra on Wednesday.
Trained by Bjorn Baker, who also trained his sire, Keith scored a two length victory in the Rob Potter Racing Maiden Plate (1000m) against older rivals. Sifu (The Brothers War) finished second with another length and three quarters back to favourite Grand Lusitano (Benfica) in third.
Bred by SF Bloodstock and Hollymount Stud, Keith was bought by Attunga Bloodstock Services for $35,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale from the draft of Newgate Farm. Bjorn Baker Racing and Clarke Bloodstock then purchased the colt from Attunga Stud's draft at last year's Inglis Classic Yearling Sale for $90,000.
Keith becomes the third winner for Listed winning Magic Albert (Zeditave) mare Tweet and further back this is the family of dual Group 1 winner and young sire Palentino (Teofilo) and his Group 3 winning half-brother Junipal (Reset).
Winning Rupert is one of three first season sires who have sired three winners; Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt) and Maurice (Screen Hero) the others. The first season sires table by winners in Australia is headed by Winning Rupert’s barnmate Capitalist (Written Tycoon) whose winners tally sits at six while Flying Artie (Artie Schiller) have both sired five winners and Shalaa (Invincible Spirit), Frosted (Tapit) and Star Turn (Star Witness) have all sired four winners so far in Australia in their respective first crops.
