Last year's Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Farnan (Not A Single Doubt) has been retired and will now join the Kia Ora Stud roster.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, the colt won five of his eight starts, headlined by his victory in the Golden Slipper, having landed the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1100m), Silver Slipper Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m) and Todman Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) prior to his victory in the Rosehill Group 1, which saw him accumulate $2,507,450 in career prize-money.

"Niggling problems have interrupted our progress towards his big autumn targets, which were the Group 1 Galaxy and T.J. Smith, with a possible tilt at a Royal Ascot campaign. Unfortunately, we have now run out of time," co-trainer Adrian Bott said in a statement on Thursday.

"Farnan's record as a two-year-old speaks for itself and his work at home and at the trials this preparation show that he has retained all of his superior speed as a three-year-old.

"Gai (Waterhouse) and I are certain that he will be a huge success at stud, and we look forward to supporting his progeny in due course."

Farnan’s Golden Slipper victory saw Timeform award the colt a rating of 122 - the highest rated juvenile last season (view last season’s top rated two-year-olds here).

“Farnan has won all his trials as a three-year-old, and in brilliant fashion,” says Kia Ora Stud manager Shane Wright.

“We were looking forward to him reclaiming his position as the leader of his generation. But he’s a fabulous stallion prospect and we’re confident he will uphold the tradition of success of Golden Slipper winners at stud. The likes of Capitalist, Pierro and Sebring show that the Slipper is the race that best demonstrates the qualities required to excel as a sire.”

Farnan is out of the 2010 Vanity Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) winner Tallow (Street Cry), whose two other winners are Listed scorer Sandbar (Snitzel) and Summer Surf (Big Brown).

His second dam is the five-time winner African Queen (Lion Hunter) who produced six winners which, in addition to Tallow, include the Group 3-placed Mr Light Blue (Fantastic Light). Further back this is the family of Listed winners Petite Dane (Danehill), Danish Silver (Silvano), Mr Unforgettable (Rubiton) and Beauty School (Royal Academy).
