17 for Power
The Oaklands Stud-based sire Power (Oasis Dream) was handed his 17th stakes winner on Saturday when Grand Mayson (6 g ex Java Silk by Kashani) landed the Lightning Handicap (Listed, 1200m) at Trentham. The six-year-old gelding was having his first start in stakes company and he came out on top of a close finish to beat Roch 'n' Horse (Per Incanto) by a nose, while Puysegur (Fastnet Rock) was the same distance away in third. Power’s progeny is headed by Group 2-winning trio Gift Of Power, La Force and Laws Of Indices.

Waisake lands New Zealand St Leger
Having won the Wellington Cup (Gr 3, 3200m) on January 30, the Allan Sharrock-trained Waisake (6 g Zed - Kincia by Kinjite) carried on his good form when he took out the New Zealand St Leger (Listed, 2600m) at Trentham on Saturday. The gelding is one of 14 stakes winners for the Grangewilliam Stud-based sire Zed (Zabeel) and his progeny is headed by multiple Group 1-winning mare Verry Elleegant and fellow elite level winner Survived.

Mount Popa lands Mornington Cup
The Team Hawkes-trained Mount Popa (6 g Maxios - Mimalia by Silver Hawk) followed up his last-start victory in the Randwick City Stakes (Listed, 2000m) when he took out the Mornington Cup (Listed, 2400m) on Saturday. The victory means the six-year-old gelding has gained a ballot exemption into the Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m). Mount Popa, who was bred by the Niarcos Family who raced Maxios (Monsun), was a €200,000 Arqana Autumn Sale purchase by Stephen Hillen Bloodstock in 2019. Maxios’ nine stakes winners are headed by Preis der Diana (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Diamanta, while Mount Popa is one of three stakes winners in Australia for the stallion, with Master Of Wine and Skymax, the others.

Second stakes victory for Dig Deep
Having been last sighted finishing tenth in the Bunbury Cup (Listed, 1400m), the Daniel and Ben Pearce-trained Dig Deep (4 g Deep Field - Lucky Ana by Lucky Unicorn) bounced back to form when he took out the Grandstand Cup (Listed, 1500m) at Ascot on Saturday. The four-year-old gelding landed the Karrakatta Plate (Gr 2, 1200m) in 2019 and he is one of eight stakes winners for Newgate Farm-based Deep Field (Northern Meteor), whose progeny is headed by Group 1 winner Portland Sky and he has seven lots catalogued as the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale which gets underway on April 6.

Two for Rogano
The Boallia Stud-based sire Rogano (Redoute’s Choice) sired his second stakes winner on Saturday when his son He’s Gold (2 g ex Rue De Marengo by General Nediym) landed the Perth Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Ascot. The two-year-old gelding came into the race having broken his maiden in his previous start and he beat Storm Whisper (Snippetson) by a nose. He’s Gold joins Group 3 winner Taxagano as the stallion’s other stakes winner.

First for Longma
Late stallion Longma (Sebring) sired his first stakes winner courtesy of Hoi An’s (2 f ex M'Lady Hallowell by Wanted) victory in the Gimcrack Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) at Ascot. The two-year-old filly finished second in the Supremacy Stakes (Listed, 1000m) on March 7 and she stayed on strongly to beat Policiere (Safeguard) by a quarter of a length. Hoi An is one of two starters, with the other Zadok also a winner. Longma died in 2017.

The Shadai Stallion Station resident Rulership (King Kamehameha) was handed his 18th stakes winner on Saturday when Ho O Ixelles (3 f ex Mejiro Audrey by Special Week) landed the Flower Cup (Gr 3, 1800m) at Nakayama. Last seen finishing second in the Fairy Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) on January 11, the three-year-old filly beat Enthusiasm (Deep Impact) by a length and a quarter. Rulership’s progeny is headed by Group 1-winning pair Kiseki and Mer De Glace, who landed the Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) in 2019.
