Three-time Group 1 winner Fierce Impact (Deep Impact) has been retired and will now take up stud duties at Leneva Park in Victoria.

The six-year-old entire has won six of his 29 starts which saw him amass $3,334,065 in career prize-money, with his three elite level wins coming in the 2019 Toorak Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) which he followed with a victory in the Cantala Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m), while he added a third victory to his CV this season when he took out the Makybe Diva Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m).

"He's been an absolute star for us, it will be sad to see him leave the stable but we're safe in the knowledge that he retires perfectly sound and well and that he has a very bright future at stud ahead of him," said trainer Matt Smith.

"It has become clear in the last fortnight that his mind is on other things, which is great for his future as a stallion but not so much as a racehorse. The potential for very wet tracks in Sydney during The Championships was another factor because he's definitely at his best on top of the ground."

The Victorian-based nursery purchased a significant share in the son of Deep Impact (Sunday Silence) in February and Mick Sharkie - general manager at the stud - said they were looking forward to welcoming their newest resident.

"It would have been great to see him on the track for a couple more runs but to be honest, we are still on cloud nine having secured a horse of his quality, we can't wait to welcome him home to Leneva Park," said Sharkie

"Victorian breeders will have access to a racehorse that counts as one of Deep Impact's top five all time performers. Fierce Impact won at two and trained on to win three Group 1 mile races, he was super tough, classy and is everything the Aussie market demands.

"Our thanks go out to Matt Smith and his team for doing such a marvellous job with the horse on the track, now we will guide the next stage of his life. We expect that the last few shares in the horse will be snapped up once breeders can lay eyes on him themselves – he's a great type of horse."

Fierce Impact was purchased by David Redvers for ¥66,000,000 (approximately $850,000) at the 2014 JRA Select Yearling and Foal Sale and was sent into training with Newmarket-based David Simcock, for whom he won one race. He was then offered at the 2017 Tattersalls Autumn Horses-In-Training Sale, selling to Smith for 120,000gns and has since earned $3,184,565 in prize-money.

Out of the Grade 3-winning mare Keiai Gerbera (Smarty Jones), Fierce Impact is a brother to NHK Mile Cup (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Keiai Nautique.

Meanwhile, his Grade 3-winning third dam Edge (Damascus) produced fellow Grade 3 winner Boundary (Danzig) and stakes-placed Eaves (Cox's Ridge), who in turn is the dam of Listed winners District (Broad Brush) and Spire (Topsider).

Spire herself is the dam of Listed-winning pair Happily Unbridled (Unbridled) and Unbridled Praise (Songandaprayer), while she is the grandam of Listed winner Happy Humor (Distorted Humor).

A fee for Fierce Impact will be announced in the coming weeks.
