Sebring colt shines in trial and now set for stakes targets
Co-trainer Tony McEvoy is eyeing a tilt in the SA Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) at Morphettville on May 8 with Three Kings (Sebring), after the two-year-old colt pleased his trainer in a 1000 metre trial at Morphettville Parks on Tuesday.
The son of Sebring (More Than Ready) settled down in third on the rail. Into the straight and he quickened impressively when asked to pull clear to beat Flying Bartie (Flying Artie) by four and a half lengths in 59.55 seconds - the quickest time of the morning.
Three Kings finished fifth, beaten as odds-on favourite on debut over 1000 metres around the Parks circuit on March 6, but McEvoy believes nothing went to plan for the colt that day.
“I was looking for him to have a good experience this morning after his only race start where things didn’t go right," Tony McEvoy said.
"We had him out of his comfort zone that day three wide outside the speed but today that was much better with a quieter ride early.
"I’m not sure where he will step out next but he looks the ideal Sires horse to me," he added.
Impressive performance from 2YO filly Philonize this morning at Morphettville
