The 2021 running of the Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) will see 15 juveniles go to post following the scratching earlier in the week of O’President (Fastnet Rock).

Over the history of the race Danehill (Danzig) and Star Kingdom (Stardust) have sired five Slipper winners each with Star Kingdom siring the first five winners of the Slipper. Newgate Farm’s first season sire Capitalist (Written Tycoon), who won the race himself in 2016, is the most represented sire in this year’s race with three runners; Kalashnikov, Captivant and Profiteer. The now pensoned Arrowfield Stud stallion Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) meanwhile has two runners in the field.

First season sires are more than pulling their weight this year with seven runners, or 47 per cent of the field, by a first season sire with Shalaa (Invincible Spirit), Flying Artie (Artie Schiller), Frosted (Tapit), Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt) all having one runner and Capitalist with his three.

Over the last 20 years only Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) and More Than Ready (Southern Halo) have sired two winners.

In the race history, 28 winners have been fillies and this year’s field comprises ten colts and five fillies in Glistening (Zoustar), Four Moves Ahead (Snitzel), Swift Witness (Star Witness), Mallory (Not A Single Doubt) and Queen Of Wizardry (Not A Single Doubt).

Godolphin Australia have bred two of the 15 runners this year in the James Cummings trained pair Ingratiating (Frosted) and Anamoe (Street Boss).

TJ Smith and Gai Waterhouse held the record of six wins in the race until Gai and Adrian Bott won last year’s race to make it seven, they have one runner this year in Swift Witness whilst James Cummings, Chris Waller, Peter and Paul Snowden and Richard and Michael Freedman all have two runners.

Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winners to win the Slipper total five – John's Hope (1972), Manikato (1978), Bounding Away (1986), Courtza (1989) and Sepoy (2011) while three Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) winners to win the Slipper – Dance Hero (2004), Phelan Ready (2009), Capitalist (2016).
