Real Impact, Sea The Moon, Sebring, Reliable Man, Headwater, No Nay Never and Deep Impact all add new stakes winners to their tallies

First Australian stakes winner for Real Impact
Former Arrowfield Stud shuttler Real Impact (Deep Impact) sired his first Australian stakes winner on Saturday when Lunar Impact (3 f ex Moonsong by Redoute's Choice) broke her maiden on her ninth attempt in the Western Australian Oaks (Gr 3, 2400m) at Ascot. The three-year-old filly was purchased by Westbury Park for $26,000 at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale from the Newhaven Park draft in 2018 and she was then bought for $62,500 by Bridge Patrol Lodge from the Western Breeders Alliance draft at the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale the following year. Real Impact has sired 21 winners in Australia, while his global winner count stands at 97, headed by sole Grade 1 winner Lauda Sion. He was also represented by son Sky Lab who finished a close second in the Rosehill Guineas (Gr 1, 2000m) on Saturday. 

 

13 for Sea The Moon
Favorite Moon (4 g ex Favorite by Montjeu) handed British-based trainer William Haggas back-to-back editions of the NE Manion Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) when producing a brave performance to take out the Group 3 on his first start in Australia at Rosehill on Saturday and in the process became the 13th stakes winner for Lanwades Stud-based sire Sea The Moon (Sea The Stars). The Newmarket-based trainer landed the Group 3 last season with Young Rascal (Intello) and Favorite Moon followed up his former stablemate’s victory with a quarter length win over Realm Of Flowers (So You Think). Sea The Moon’s progeny is headed by Group 1 winner Alpine Star and he stands for a fee of £22,500. 

 

65 for Sebring
Late Widden Stud-based sire Sebring (More Than Ready) was handed his 65th stakes winner on Saturday when the Les Bridge-trained Seasons (6 m ex Acouplamas by Al Maher) added some valuable black-type to her record in the Birthday Card Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Rosehill. Purchased by K Harding for $110,000 at the 2016 edition of the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from the Holbrook Thoroughbreds draft, the six-year-old mare beat Tricky Gal (Magic Albert) by two and a quarter lengths, while Wandabaa (Wandjina) was a further head away in third. Sebring’s stakes winners are headed by six Group 1 winners and he died in 2019. Seasons is a half-sister to 2020 Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Quick Thinker. 

 

23rd Group winner for Azamour
Having landed Matamata Cup (Listed, 1600m) when trained in New Zealand, the Chris Waller-trained Polly Grey (6 m ex Allanah by Zenno Rob Roy) added the Epona Stakes (Gr 3, 1900m) to her record when she landed the Group 3 at Rosehill on Saturday and in the process became the 23rd Group winner for late Aga Khan Studs sire Azamour (Night Shift). The six-year-old mare is one of 43 stakes winners for Azamour, who shuttled to Brighthill Farm in New Zealand for one season, before his death in 2014. The stallion’s five Group 1 winners include Australian top-flight winners Best Of Days and Aloisia. 

 

16 for Reliable Man
Westbury Stud shuttler Reliable Man (Dalakhani) sired his 16th stakes winner on Saturday when the Mick Price and Michael jr-trained Annavisto (3 f ex Avisto by Tavistock) took out the Bendigo Guineas (Listed, 1400m). Last seen running second over 1400 metres at Flemington, the filly added some valuable black-type to her CV when she beat Mozzie Monster (Sebring) by a length and three-quarters, while Air Defence (Stryker) was a further two and a quarter lengths away in third. Reliable Man’s progeny is headed by Group 1-winning trio; Miami Bound, Inspirational Girl and Miss Sentimental. 

 

Second Group 3 for Belle Fascino
Having landed the White Robe Lodge Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) on February 6, the Stephen Marsh-trained Belle Fascino (7 m Per Incanto - Playing For Keeps by Keeper) added a second Group 3 win to her record when she won the South Island Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) at Riccarton. The seven-year-old mare is one of 18 stakes winners for the Little Avondale Stud-based sire Per Incanto (Street Cry) and his progeny is headlined by four Group 1 winners; Shadows Cast, Dal Cielo, Santa Monica and Bonham. 

 

Third stakes victory for Isotope
Having dislodged her jockey Ryan Malony in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (RL, 1400m) at the Gold Coast on January 16, the Tony Gollan-trained Isotope (3 f Deep Field - Great Dansaar by Choisir) got her autumn campaign back on track with a fine victory in the Darby Munro Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The three-year-old filly, who won the Mode Plate (Listed, 1200m) and Gold Edition Plate (Listed, 1200m) in December, beat Group 1 winner Odeum (Written Tycoon) by a head. Bella Nipotina (Pride Of Dubai) was a further length and three-quarters away in third. The filly was purchased by her trainer, John Foote and Black Soil Bloodstock for $170,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Daandine Stud draft. 

 

Ironclad remains unbeaten
The Will Clarken-trained and Australian Bloodstock-raced Ironclad (5 g Dubawi - Heat Haze by Green Desert) chalked up his fourth consecutive win - and second stakes victory - when he landed the Golden Mile (Listed, 1600m) at Bendigo on Saturday and in the process retained his unbeaten record in Australia since joining Clarken’s stable from UK-based trainer Hugo Palmer. The five-year-old gelding stayed on strongly all the way to the line to beat Platoon (Playing God) by a length and three-quarters, whole Vassilator (Zacinto) was another head away in third. Ironclad is one of 198 stakes winners for Darley’s linchpin stallion Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) who stands at Banstead Manor in Newmarket for a fee of £250,000. 

 

Third straight stakes win for Western Empire 
Having taken out the Lex Piper Stakes (Listed, 1600m) and Roberts Stakes (Listed, 1800m) on his two previous appearances, the Grant and Alana Williams-trained Western Empire (3 g Iffraaj - Western Jewel by Jeune) landed his third stakes race when he won the Melvista Stakes (Listed, 2200m) at Ascot on Saturday. The three-year-old gelding defeated Outback Jack (Outreach) by three-quarters of a length. Iffraaj (Zafonic) shuttled to Haunui Farm in New Zealand for 12 years siring 25 southern hemisphere-bred stakes winners, headed by Group 1 winners Turn Me Loose, Gingernuts, Jon Snow and Wyndspelle. He was replaced at the New Zealand nursery by his son Ribchester, while it was announced last week that another of his sons - Wootton Bassett - would shuttle to Coolmore Stud in the Hunter Valley for the 2021 breeding season. 

 

Second stakes winner for Headwater
Vinery Stud-based sire Headwater (Exceed And Excel) was handed his second stakes winner on Saturday courtesy of Mileva’s (3 f ex Lady Einstein by Magic Albert) win in the Manihi Classic (Listed, 1100m) at Morphettville. Trained by Dan Clarken and Oopy Macgillivray, the filly beat Group 1 winner Lyre (Lonhro) by three-quarters of a length, while Brimarvi Vehero (Von Costa De Hero) was the same distance away in third. Purchased by Macgillivray for $42,000 at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale from the Little Hills Pastoral draft in 2019, the filly joins Group 3 winner Wisdom Of Water as the son of Exceed And Excel’s (Danehill) other stakes winner. 

 

Third stakes win for Ecumenical
The Mick Huxtable-trained Ecumenical (3 f Zebedee - Amalgamate by Zenno Rob Roy) scored her third win at stakes level when he landed the Clare Lindop Stakes (Listed, 1600m) at Morphettville on Saturday. The three-year-old filly won the Dequetteville Stakes (Listed, 1050m) and SAJC Breeders’ Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) in April 2020 and she has now earned $350,010 in career prize-money, which is a good return on the $14,000 her trainer paid for her at the 2019 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale. Ecumenical is one of 12 stakes winners for Zebedee (Invincible Spirit), who died at Cornerstone Stud in South Australia in 2019. 

 

171 for Deep Impact
Late Shadai Stallion Station-based resident Deep Impact (Sunday Silence) sired his 171st stakes winner when Shahryar (3 c ex Dubai Majesty by Essence Of Dubai) took out the Mainichi Hai (Gr 3, 1800m) at Hashin on Saturday. Last seen finishing third in the Kyodo News Hai (Gr 3, 1800m), the three-year-old colt led home a trifecta for the stallion when he beat Great Magician by neck, while Prognosis was another length and three-quarters away in third. Deep Impact, who stood at the Shadai Stallion Station for his whole breeding career, died in 2019 and he was represented by his sire sons Tosen Stardom, who stands at Woodside Park Stud and Coolmore Stud-based Saxon Warrior in Australia last season, while next season he will be represented by three-time Group 1 winner Fierce Impact who will stand at Leneva Park in Victoria.

 

Third Listed success for Global Giant
Thady Gosden sent out his first stakes race since being added to his father John’s licence when Global Giant (6 h Shamardal - Aniseed by Dalakhani) added a third Listed race to his CV in the Magnolia Stakes (Listed, 1m2f) at Kempton. The six-year-old entire was last seen running 12th behind stablemate Mishriff (Make Believe) in the Saudi Cup (1800m) on February 20 and he had no issues overcoming his opposition on Saturday, surging to a six length victory over Stormy Antarctic (Stormy Atlantic). Global Giant is one 152 stakes winners for the late Darley Stud resident Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway), who shuttled to Australia for five seasons. The stallion died last year and he is represented in Australia by his sire sons Blue Point and Puissance De Lune, while it was announced last week his Group 1-winning son Pinatubo will cover his first book of mares Darley Kelvinside later this year. 

 

Doncaster Mile to Top Rank
The James Tate-trained Top Rank (4 h ex Dark Angel - Countess Ferrama by Authorized) made a winning seasonal debut in the Doncaster Mile Stakes (Listed, 1m) at Doncaster on Saturday. A winner of the Superior Mile Stakes (Gr 3, 1m) at Haydock last September, the son of Dark Angel (Acclamation) beat What’s The Story (Harbour Watch) by a length. Dark Angel is the sire of 70 stakes winners, headed by seven Group 1 winners, including Harry Angel, who shuttles to Darley Kelvinside in Australia. 

 

27 for No Nay Never
Former Coolmore Stud shuttler No Nay Never (Scat Daddy) sired his 27th stakes winner on Saturday when the Charlie Hills-trained Royal Commando (4 h ex Online Alexander, by Acclamation) took out the Cammidge Trophy Stakes (Listed, 6f) at Doncaster. The four-year-old entire is out of the four-time-winning Acclamation (Royal Applause) mare Online Alexander, making him a half-brother to two-time Group 2-placed Yazaman (Kodiac). No Nay Never shuttled to Coolmore Australia for two seasons and he has sired 13 winners in Australia and New Zealand, with Need I Say More the only stakes winner. The son of Scat Daddy (Johannesburg) is standing at Coolmore in Ireland for a fee of €125,000.
