The Michael and Richard Freedman-trained Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Stay Inside (Extreme Choice) will likely now press onto the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) at Randwick on April 10, following his dominant victory on Saturday.

The victory saw Timeform award the colt a rating of 122, which equals the mark of last year’s winner Farnan (Not A Single Doubt) as well as recent winners Capitalist (Written Tycoon) and Vancouver (Medaglia d’Oro) and he now sits at the head of this season’s two-year-old table.

Following Saturday’s victory connections indicated that the son of Newgate Farm’s first season sire Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt) would go for a spell, however after the colt pulled up well Michael Freedman announced that they would bid for another juvenile Group 1 victory.

“I’ve had a chat with a few of the owners and the colt has pulled up so well we have decided to press on to the Sires at this stage,’’ Freedman told The Daily Telegraph.

“It all depends on how the colt does through the week but he looks in such good condition, there is no reason not to keep him in training and have a good look at the Sires’.’’

Should Stay Inside win the ATC Sires’ Produce, he will become the fourth horse to win the Golden Slipper - ATC Sires’ double this century joining Dancer Hero (Danzero) (2004), Sebring (More Than Ready) (2008) and Pierro (Lonhro) (2012).

Stay Inside’s rating of 122 has only been bettered by Dance Hero (124), Sepoy (123) and Pierro (123) have been awarded higher ratings for the Golden Slipper victories.

Winning jockey Tommy Berry, who was winning the Golden Slipper for the third time, believes that Stay Inside will be hard to beat in the Inglis Sires’.

“He was strong through the line and he is obviously going to head towards The Sires' now and you would say off that performance, he would be very hard to beat again,” Berry said.

“Obviously the second horse (Anamoe) was very strong from the back, but it gets back in its races and my bloke makes his own luck on the speed.”

The James Cummings-trained Anamoe (Street Boss) is currently the early favourite for the Inglis Sires’ ahead of Stay Inside however, Berry believes that there is still improvement from his colt who beat Anamoe by almost two lengths in the Slipper. Saturday’s Group 1 was Stay Inside’s fourth start and third victory with the colt having broken his maiden over 1000 metres at Randwick on January 23.

“He felt like he got a little bit lost being out there in front by himself, but I probably got there a little bit earlier than I wanted to myself,” explained Berry.

“I just thought Profiteer even though he had gone hard out there early, he’d done that before and was still strong at the end of his races so I thought Profiteer would at least get me to the 150 metres.

“But when I had him covered at the 300 metres it just left me vulnerable being in front by myself, so that’s what made the win even better.”

Berry is just one Golden Slipper victory away from equalling champion jockeys Shane Dye and Ron Quinton record of three wins in the race.

Males dominated this year’s Golden Slipper with eight of the first nine across the line being colts / geldings and the only filly was the fourth placed Four Moves Ahead (Snitzel). It was the first time since 1999 that a filly has failed to finish in the first three.
