Australian Bloodstock's Jamie Lovett says his international buying plans are on hold until Racing Victoria releases its changes to the requirements that imports must meet in order to compete during the spring carnival.

Lovett told Racing.com he had a number of possible purchases in mind but was wary to commit until details are finalised.

"We are just on hold, everyone is in the same boat. We will see what eventuates and what the framework is to work within," Lovett said.

"It would be foolish to jump in and start buying if it looks like it's going to be a bit tricky.

"Historically, April/May you are definitely buying them, so we just thought … there's a couple that I've got a thumb on but we just want to wait and see what comes out in the next few weeks."

RV and the Victoria Racing Club are currently finalising a report into the deaths of horses in the Melbourne Cup and are likely to have new requirements horses must meet before being allowed to compete in the spring.

"RV has been great. There's been plenty of input, plenty of dialogue from all interest parties," Lovett said.

"Ultimately we just have to see what outcomes are generated. They certainly haven't rushed in, I'll give them credit, they have listened to all different participants.”
