Heroess gets off the mark at Gosford
The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Heroess (3 f ex Srikandi by Dubawi) - who is daughter of Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) and out of Group 1 winner Srikandi (Dubawi) - got off the mark at the third time of asking when she broke her maiden over 1000 metres at Gosford on Thursday.
Returning from a long layoff, having not been seen since running third at Gosford in August, Heroess was ridden forward by James McDonald and forged clear at the finish to beat Symo's Girl (Star Witness) by two lengths, while How Do You Sleep (Sebring) was another length away in third.
Purchased by Andrew Williams Bloodstock for $400,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in 2019 from the Kitchwin Hills draft, the filly is out of Srikandi (Dubawi), who landed the Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 1350m) and Tattersall’s Tiara (Gr 1, 1400m) in 2015.
The daughter of Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) - who is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Rain Gal (Galileo) - was purchased by Coolmore’s Tom Magnier for $2 million at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale in 2019.
Srikandi’s filly by I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) was bought by Andrew Williams Bloodstock for $1 million at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale last year and she is now called Billiondollarbaby and is unraced.
In 2019 Srikandi foaled a filly by Coolmore’s Triple Crown-winning shuttler American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile), while last spring she produced a filly by the operation’s other Triple Crown-winning shuttler Justify (Scat Daddy) and she was covered by the son of Scat Daddy (Johannesburg) again in November.
