Najmaty retain her unbeaten record in Redoute's Choice Stakes
Yarraman Park-based sire I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) sired his 63rd stakes winner courtesy of Najmaty’s (2 f ex Najoom by Northern Meteor) victory in the Redoute's Choice Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday, to remain unbeaten in two starts.
The Peter And Paul Snowden-trained filly, a debut winner at Randwick on March 10, was originally heading to the Percy Sykes Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at Randwick on April 10. But with that meeting pushed back to April 17, it allowed Najmaty to run at Caulfield on Saturday and claim the Listed race on Saturday.
Under the guidance of John Allen, Najmaty was sent off the $3 favourite and defeated He’s The Ultimate (Fastnet Rock) by two and three-quarter lengths with Hunnam (Shalaa) a short neck away third.
Peter Snowden said Najmaty had suffered from shin soreness which had ruled her out of contesting the Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) at Caulfield and last week’s Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m).
Snowden said the filly would now head to the Percy Sykes Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at Randwick on April 17.
"Once you win a maiden up in Sydney at this point of the year there's nowhere to go," Snowden explained. "They don't have mid-week races for two-year-olds. They are all just maidens or nothing.
"I really want to go to the Percy Sykes (Stakes) - I really think she's good enough.
"I thought if she comes down here and runs competitively, you know you've got some sort of chance in that race (Percy Sykes). It works in perfectly as it's two weeks from today.
“We had thought of not going too far with her this preparation, but once we trialled her and saw how well she had improved we were happy to go on,” Snowden said.
Bred and raced by Emirates Park, the juvenile is out of dual Group 3-winning Northern Meteor (Encosta De Lago) mare Najoom.
The filly’s third dam Joleur (Bite The Bullet) - the dam of Listed winners Upon This Rock (Fastnet Rock), Bhutane Dane (Danehill Dancer) and Gaze On (Intergraze).
In 2020 Najoom foaled a sister to Najmaty and she was most recently served by Newgate Farm’s new sire Tassort (Brazen Beau).
Najmaty is one of nine juvenile winners for I Am Invincible in Australia and New Zealand this season, headed by five stakes winners, including Group 2 winners Home Affairs and Imperatriz. The stallion has 53 lots catalogued at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, which gets underway on Tuesday.
Najmaty becomes the sixth individual stakes winner bred by Emirates Park this season, Liwa, Lightsaber, Marboosha, Flirtini and Enthaar, who has won two stakes races. The Victorian-based operation are sitting fifth in the leader breeders in Australia this season.
