Smart Missile, Street Boss, Roc De Cambes, Windsor Knot, He's Remarkable, Deep Impact, Kingman and Camelot add new stakes winners

Fourth winner for Astern
Darley Stud-based first season sire Astern (Medaglia d’Oro) sired his fourth first-crop winner on Saturday when the Jean Dubois-trained colt Arnaqueur (2 c ex Aloona, by Smart Strike) made a winning debut at Kembla Grange. Bred by Woodpark Stud, Arnaqueur is a half-brother to Todman Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner Aylmerton (Siyouni). Lime Country Thoroughbreds will offer a Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) half-brother to Arnaqueur at the Easter Yearling Sale (Lot 187). The colt is out of winning Smart Strike mare Aloona, a half-sister to Galatee (Galileo), the dam of Group 2 winners Dartmouth (Dubawi) and Manatee (Monsun) and Listed winner Gaterie (Dubai Destination). Astern’s four winners are headed by Listed scorer Seradess. 

 

Mr Quickie returns to winning ways
Dual Group 1 winner Mr Quickie (5 g Shamus Award - Special Favour by General Nediym) bounced back to winning ways when he got his head in front in the Victoria Handicap (Gr 3, 1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday. A winner of the 2019 Queensland Derby (Gr 1, 2400m), the son of Rosemont Stud-based Shamus Award (Snitzel) had not saluted the judge since his victory in the Toorak Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) in October. The gelding has now won 11 of his 28 starts and $1,967,800 in career prize-money. 

 

20 for Smart Missile
The Twin Hills Stud-based sire Smart Missile (Fastnet Rock) sired his 20th stakes winner when Yao Dash (4 g ex Rahy Storm by Rahy) landed the Doncaster Prelude Handicap (Gr 3, 1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday. Last seen winning over 1350 metres at the same track on March 13, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained four-year-old gelding surged clear to beat Mister Sea Wolf (Amadeus Wolf) by an impressive three and a half lengths. Bottega (Snitzel) was another half a length away in third. Purchased by Dynamic Syndications for $90,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Newhaven Park draft in 2018, the four-year-old gelding will now head to the Doncaster Mile (Gr 1, 1600m) at Randwick on April 10. Smart Missile’s 20 stakes winners are headed by Group 1 winner Maid Of Heaven. 

 

92nd Group winner for Exceed And Excel
Having landed three races at Listed level, the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Signore Fox (5 h ex Sharp Susan by Touch Gold) landed his first Group race when he took out the Star Kingdom Handicap (Gr 3, 1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday and in the process became Darley’s stalwart sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill) 92nd Group winner. Purchased by his trainers for $300,00 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling in 2017, the five-year-old entire is out of Grade 2 winner Sharp Susan (Touch Gold), making him a half-brother to multiple Grade 1-winning South African champion Oh Susanna (Street Cry). Exceed And Excel is the sire of 182 stakes winners worldwide and he will be joined on the Darley Kelvinside roster by his three time Group 1-winning sire Bivouac this spring. 

 

48 for Street Boss
The Karen Byrnes-trained Street Life (7 g ex Mimiele by Barely A Moment) handed Darley shuttler Street Boss (Street Cry) with his 48th stakes winner on Saturday when he landed the Railway Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Oakbank. The seven-year-old gelding, who was having his 48th career start - beat Elderflower (Toronado) by a length and a quarter. Street Boss is represented by 12 stakes winners in Australia, headed by Group 1-winning pair The Quarterback and Elite Street. 

 

Five for Roc De Cambes
The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained Joy Alone (3 f ex Optimum Note by Park Regent) stayed on strongly to beat Milford Sound (Ocean Park) in the Manawatu Classic (Gr 3, 2000m) at Awapuni on Saturday and in the process handed The Oaks Stud-based sire Roc De Cambes (Red Ransom) with his fifth stakes winner. The three-year-old filly joins Group 1-winning pair Our Rokkii and Vin De Dance, fellow Group 3 winner Consommateur and Listed winner Seven Seas as the stallion’s other stakes winners. 

 

Six for Windsor Knot
Last seen taking out the Yarra Valley Cup (1950m) on March 14, the Mike Moroney-trained Hang Man (7 g ex Halliard by Halling) carried on his winning run when he beat Persan (Pierro) in the Easter Cup (Gr 3, 2000m) at Caulfield on Saturday and in doing so provided by Windsor Knot (Pivotal) with his sixth stakes winner. The seven-year-old gelding was purchased by Mike’s brother Paul for €15,000 at the 2015 Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale. 

 

First stakes winner for He’s Remarkable
Former Mapperley Stud-based resident He’s Remarkable (Pentire) sired his first stakes winner on Saturday courtesy of Our Boy Ritchie’s (5 g ex Miss Andrea by King's Chapel) win in the Riverton Cup (Listed, 2147m). The five-year-old gelding defeated Gold'nguru (Gallant Guru) by a head, while Rainman (Pins) was a further nose in third. 

 

Second stakes victory for Media Baron
Media Baron (6 g Written Tycoon - Silentium by Fimiston) won the Old Comrade Stakes (Listed, 1600m) in 2020 and on Friday he added a second stakes win to his CV when he took out the Listed race for the second consecutive year. The six-year-old gelding beat Trap For Fools (Poet’s Voice) by three-quarters of a length, while Dig Deep (Deep Field) was another quarter of a length further back in third. The gelding becomes the 12th stakes winner this season for Arrowfield Stud-based sire Written Tycoon (Iglesia) and these are headed by Group 1 winners Ole Kirk, Odeum and Pippie. The stallion - who has sired 42 stakes winners in total - has 18 lots catalogued at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, which gets underway on Tuesday. 

 

Second Group winner for Playing God
Having taken out the Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m), Ex Sport Man (2 g ex Buhn Lert by Oratorio) added a first Group race to his record when he took out the Karrakatta Plate (Gr 2, 1200m) at Ascot on Saturday and in the process becoming Playing God’s (Blackfriars) fourth Group winner. The two-year-old gelding narrowly defeated Liwa (Mulaazem) by a nose. Ex Sport Man is one of three stakes winners for Playing God and he stands at a Darling View Thoroughbreds and his stakes winners are headed by Group 1 winner Kay Cee. 

 

172 for Deep Impact
The Shoichiro Wada-trained Terzetto (4 m ex Raddolcendo by Danehill Dancer) became stakes winner number 172 for the late Shadai Stallion Station-based Deep Impact (Sunday Silence) when she landed the The Lord Derby Challenge Trophy (Gr 3, 1600m) at Nakayama on Saturday. The four-year-old mare has only been beaten once in her six start career and she is out of winner Raddolcendo (Danehill Dancer), making the mare a three-quarter sister to Grade 1 winner and former Arrowfield Stud shuttler Real Steal and fellow elite level winner Loves Only You. Deep Impact, who stood at the Shadai Stallion Station for his whole breeding career, died in 2019 and he was represented by his sire sons Tosen Stardom, who stands at Woodside Park Stud and Coolmore Stud-based Saxon Warrior in Australia last season, while next season he will be represented by three-time Group 1 winner Fierce Impact who will stand at Leneva Park in Victoria. 

 

31 for Kingman
Juddmonte Farm stallion Kingman (Invincible Spirit) was provided with his 31st stakes winner on Friday when the John and Thady Gosden-trained Megallan (3 c ex Eastern Belle by Champs Elysees) landed the Burradon Stakes (Listed, 1m) at Newcastle. The three-year-old colt was last seen running second in the Spring Cup (Listed, 7f) at Lingfield on March 6 and he beat Legion Of Honour (Wootton Bassett) by half a length. The colt is bred and raced by Anthony Oppenheimer and he is out of Listed winner Eastern Belle (Champs Elysees) - a half-sister to Golden Horn (Cape Cross) - who won the 2015 Derby (Gr 1, 1m4f) for Oppenheimer and John Gosden. Kingman’s 31 stakes winners are headed by elite level-winning trio Persian King, Palace Pier and Domestic Spending. The stallion is standing at Banstead Manor in Newmarket for a fee of £150,000. 

 

Eight for Mayson
Cheveley Park Stud-based sire Mayson (Invincible Spirit) sired his eighth stakes winner on Saturday as the Adrian McGuinness-trained Laugh A Minute (6 g ex Funny Enough, by Dansili) scored his maiden stakes victory in the Sean Barrett (Listed, 6f) at Cork. The six-year-old gelding was purchased by his former trainer Roger Varian for 45,000gns at Book 2 of the 2016 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and he was then purchased for by Shamrock Thoroughbreds for 100,000gns at the 2019 Tattersalls Autumn Horses-in-Training Sale. Mayson’s stakes winners are headed by last year’s July Cup (Gr 1, 6f) winner Oxted. 

 

24th Group winner for Siyouni
Having won at Listed level on two occasions, the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained Wally (4 g ex Full Of Beauty by Motivator) became Siyouni’s (Pivotal) 24th Group winner when he landed the Prix Edmond Blanc (Gr 3, 1600m) at Saint-Cloud on Saturday. Purchased by his trainer for €130,000 2018 Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale, the gelding beat Duhail (Lope De Vega) by a neck, while Group 1 winner The Revenant (Dubawi) - who was sent off the 7/10 favourite - was another three quarters of a length away in third. Siyouni stands at Haras de Bonneval and he has sired four winners from five starters in Australia, headed by Group 2 winner Alymerton. 

 

 

34 for Camelot
With Sir Dragonet (Camelot) winning the HE Tancred Stakes (Gr 1, 2400m) at Rosehill, the Peter Twomey-trained Moll (4 m ex Jamm by Duke of Marmalade) opened her account as a four-year-old when she beat Flor De La Luna (Sea The Moon) by a length and three-quarters in the Noblesse Stakes (Listed, 1m4f) at Cork on Saturday. The mare was purchased by for €3,000 at the 2018 Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling and he is out of unraced mare Jamm (Duke Of Marmalade), who is herself a half-sister to Group 1 winner Rivet (Fastnet Rock), further back this is the same family as dual Group 3 winner Enticing (Pivotal) - the dam of multiple Group 1 winner One Master (Fastnet Rock). Camelot - who shuttled to Australia for one season - is standing at Coolmore Stud in Ireland for €60,000.
