Trainer Gordon Richards has said Gytrash (Lope De Vega) could make a comeback to the track earlier than expected, with the trainer planning on running the Group 1 winner in the either the Doomben 10,000 (Gr 1, 1200m) or The Goodwood (Gr 1, 1200m) on May 15.

The son of Lope De Vega (Shamardal) has not been seen since his victory $1,000,000 Yes Yes Yes Stakes (1300m) on October 31, having finished third in The Everest (1200m) on his previous start and he underwent surgery to have bone chips removed in November.

“We obviously have The Goodwood run in our own backyard at Morphettville but there is also the Doomben 10,000 in Brisbane the same day,” Richards told Racing.com.

“You would think it makes more sense to stay at home and it would be nice to try and avenge his narrow defeat to Trekking last year.

“He’d already had a month on the water walker in Sydney before returning home on Good Friday and he is in wonderful order.

“It’s going to be a fine line to have him ready for May 15 and absolutely everything would need to full into place perfectly.

“There is no way I would rush him and if he’s not ready he won’t be running.

“However, I alerted the connections yesterday on my thoughts so let’s see what happens.”
