Luke Nolen believes Lightsaber’s (Zoustar) straightforward attitude will stand him in good stead when he tackles the ATC Sires' Produce (Gr 1, 1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

The Peter Moody-trained son of Zoustar (Northern Meteor) has won three of his last starts, headlined by a last start victory in the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m).

"He makes his own luck," Nolen told Racing.com. "From the soft draw (barrier three) he is probably going to do that again (race on the pace) all things going to plan.

"He's a very straightforward horse, what you see is what you get. He's very honest, genuine and keeps running well. He’s a real racehorse."

Nolen rode the Peter Moody-trained Lightsaber in his final gallop ahead of the Group 1 on Tuesday morning, going the reverse way at Pakenham.

"He did everything I asked of him and he tracked pretty straight. Of course, it's going to be a bit different under race conditions but he's been prepared as best we can for it and he's coped with it well at this stage," Nolen said.

"From the 1400-metre start at Randwick (of the ATC Sires' Produce), there's no sharp corners at any stage, it's going to be much the same as racing at home (in Victoria) except when you turn for home you'll be doing it right-handed instead of left-handed.

"The turns at Randwick are pretty gentle and it’s a well cambered course. It's not as brutal as the Golden Slipper when you're flying into that first corner and it's a hard right and then you ask them to straighten and then turn again.

"Lightsaber is a very easy horse to do anything with, he just takes everything in his stride. Those sorts of horses give themselves every opportunity to win and develop into better horses.”
