In an exciting move for the Victorian breeding industry, Written Tycoon (Iglesia) will return to the state and will stand at Yulong Stud for the 2021 breeding season.

Written Tycoon was relocated from Woodside Park Stud to Arrowfield Stud for the 2020 breeding season where he covered 199 mares at a fee of $77,000 (inc GST).

The stallion will stand alongside Yulong Prince (Gimmethegreenlight), Alabama Express (Redoute’s Choice) and Grunt (O’Reilly) and Yulong’s chief operating officer Sam Fairgray told Racing & Sports Bloodstock Written Tycoon returning to the state was good result for the farm and the Victorian breeding industry.

“It is fantastic that he is coming back to Victoria and he is going to be a great asset for YuLong and a great horse to have on the farm,” said Fairgray.

“The farm has definitely progressed over the last three years and being able to have a stallion of Written Tycoon’s calibre is fantastic, because Mr Zhang has invested heavily in high-class broodmares, so we have mares of the quality worthy of going to a stallion like him.

“It is going to be great to be able to support him with our own mares and breeders will be able to support him.

“We are greatly appreciative to Sheriff Iskander for entrusting us with Written Tycoon in the twilight of a truly extraordinary career, where the best is yet to come.”

The stallion has enjoyed a good season on the track, siring 12 stakes winners; headed by Group 1-winning trio Ole Kirk, Odeum and Pippie. Written Tycoon is currently Australia’s leading sire of stakes winners and stakes wins this season – and ranked second by overall earnings - $48,843 behind The Everest (1200m)-producing stallion Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice).

“He has had a fantastic 12 months, he is leading equal sire by stakes winners, with 12 individual stakes winners and he is not far behind Not A Single Doubt on the sires’ premiership,” said Fairgray. “It is great exposure for the farm and we are just delighted that he will be at Yulong for the rest of his career.

“We have had really positive feedback from the Victorian breeders about his return to the state, obviously there were a lot of disappointed breeders when he was relocated to New South Wales last season, but they are thrilled he is coming back to Victoria.”

The Australian breeding stock sales are just round the corner and Fairgray said Mr Zhang will be looking to once again add to his burgeoning broodmare band.

“We will definitely be active at the sale and look to add to our already high-class broodmare band,” he said. “One thing that Mr Zhang has always been really strong on is that we need really nice, high-quality mares on the farm to support our stallions.”
