Winning Verse breaks her maiden at Kembla Grange on Saturday

Newgate Farm-based stallion Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon) was represented by his fourth first crop winner on Saturday when Winning Verse (2 f ex She's Poetry by Dylan Thomas) won the Lone Pine Maiden Plate (1000m) at Kembla Grange.

Bought for just NZ$10,000 by her trainer Marc Conners at the 2020 New Zeaand Bloodstock Karaka Book 2 sale from the draft of Berkley Stud, Winning Verse defeated favourite Field Wiri (Deep Field) by a half length. I Am Geronimo (I Am Invincible) was another two and a quarter lengths back in third.

The filly becomes the first winner out of winning Dylan Thomas (Danehill) mare She's Poetry who is herself a half-sister to Group 2 placed gelding Gerontius (Oratorio).

Winning Rupert's other winners to date are Hi Hi Hi, Vienna Cruise and Keith and he has also produced the Listed placed filly Bolsonaro. His 2021 fee has yet to be announced.
