Fastnet Rock, Press Statement, Pride Of Dubai, Shocking, Power and Olympic Glory all add new stakes winners

172 for Fastnet Rock
The well-bred Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Groundswell (4 g ex The Broken Shore by Hussonet) broke through at stakes level for the first time in the City of Adelaide Handicap (Listed, 1400m) at Morphettville on Saturday and in the process became Coolmore Stud-based sire Fastnet Rock’s (Danehill) 172nd stakes winner. Purchased for a sale-topping $2,300,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in 2018, the four-year-old gelding is one of three winners out of winning Hussonet (Mr Prospector) mare The Broken Shore, making him a brother to three-time Group 1 winner Shoals. The gelding becomes the 16th Australasian stakes winner for Fastnet Rock this season and they are headed by Group 1-winning trio Avantage, Rocket Spade and Personal. 

 

Nine for Pride Of Dubai 
Last season’s champion first-season stallion Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) sired his ninth stakes winner on Saturday when the Chris Waller-trained Easifar (3 f ex Storm Fronts by Hurricane Sky) beat Tycoon Evie (Written Tycoon) by half a length in the Princess Stakes (Listed, 1630m) at Doomben. The three-year-old filly was purchased by Woppitt Bloodstock for NZ$220,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in 2019 from the Wentwood Grange draft. The three-year-old is out of Storm Fronts (Hurricane Sky) making her a half-sister to South African Grade 3 winner Readytogorightnow (More Than Ready). 

 

Two for Press Statement
Vinery Stud-based sire Press Statement (Hinchinbrook) sired his second stakes winner when the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Incredulous Dream (3 f ex Incredulous by Keep The Faith) landed the HC Nitschke Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Morphettville on Saturday. The filly was purchased by Spicer Thoroughbreds for $340,000 - the most ever paid for a yearling by the sire - at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Aquis Farm draft and she is out winning Keep The Faith (Sunday Silence) mare Incredulous. Incredulous herself was purchased by Aquis Farm and Julian Blaxland’s Blue Sky Bloodstock for $200,000 at the 2017 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and she was carrying the filly in utero. The filly is a half-sister to dual Group 2 winner Global Exchange (Dundeel), while Incredulous is out of Group 3 winner Simply Believe (Kenmare) making her a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Faith Hill (Danehill). The filly joins Equation as the stallion’s other stakes winner and he will stand the 2021 season for an unchanged fee of $13,750 (inc GST).   

 

51st Group winner for Mastercraftsman
Former Windsor Park shuttler Mastercraftsman (Danehill Dancer) sired his 51st Group winner on Saturday courtesy of Paths Of Glory’s (6 g ex Pacific Rim by Singspiel) victory in the Japan Racing Association Plate (Gr 3, 2000m) at Randwick. The China Horse Club-owned six-year-old gelding began his career in Newmarket with Hugo Palmer, for whom he won four times and landed the Wyong Gold Cup (Listed, 2100m) on his fourth start in Australia and his win on Saturday was his second stakes career stakes win. Mastercraftsman is the sire of 78 stakes winners in total and they are headed by 15 Group 1 winners, including New Zealand top-flight winners Thee Auld Floozie and Danzdanzdance, who will be offered as Lot 18 https://inglis.com.au/sales/info/2021+Chairman%27s+Sale/catalogue/18 at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale on May 7. 

 

13 for Shocking
Rich Hill Stud-based sire Shocking (Street Cry) was represented by his 13th stakes winner on Saturday when his son Hezashocka (3 g ex Shezakiwi by Brilliance) landed the Championship Stakes (Gr 2, 2100m) at Ellerslie. The Shaun and Emma Clotworthy-trained three-year-old gelding stayed on bravely to beat Joy Alone (Roc De Cambes) by a nose. The gelding was purchased by Shaun Clotworthy for NZ$18,000 at Book 3 of the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale in 2019. The son of Street Cry’s (Machiavellian) stakes winners is headed by Group 1 winner Fanatic. 

 

19 for Power
The Oaklands Stud-based stallion Power (Oasis Dream) chalked up his 19th stakes winner when the Nigel Tiley-trained Lady Maroal (2 f ex Lady Dehere by Dehere) took out the Champagne Stakes (Listed, 1600m) at Ellerslie on Saturday. The two-year-old filly was purchased by Maroal Bloodstock for NZ$40,000 at the Book 1 of the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale from the Carlaw Park draft and she is out of Group 2 winner Lady Dehere (Dehere), making him a half-sister to Group 2 scorer Oracy (Zabeel) and Listed winner The Lady (Stravinsky). Power has enjoyed a good season in New Zealand, with Lady Maroal becoming his fourth stakes winner and the quartet is headed by Group 3 scorer Force Of Will. 

 

Seventh stakes winner for Olympic Glory
The Mark Newnham-trained Lord Olympus (3 g ex Lady Zabelia by Zabeel) landed his fifth career victory and first at stakes level when he defeated Zingalong (Falvelon) by a neck in the Mick Dittman Plate (Listed, 1110m) at Doomben on Saturday and in doing so became the first Australian-bred stakes winner for fromer Arrowfield Stud-based shuttler Olympic Glory (Choisir), and seventh overall. The three-year-old gelding was purchased by co-owners Darby Racing and De Burgh Equine for $70,000 at the 2019 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the Arrowfield Stud draft and he is a half-brother to dual Group 2 winner Time For War (Snitzel). Olympic Glory shuttled to Australia for three seasons and his stakes-winning progeny is headed by dual Group 1 winner Watch Me. 

 

Second Group 2 for Demonetization
Having taken out the Great Northern Guineas (Gr 2, 1600m) in 2018, the Nigel Tiley-trained Demonetization (6 g All Too Hard - Midnight Special by Zabeel) added a second Group 2 to his CV when he won the Easter Handicap (Gr 2, 1600m) at Ellerslie on Saturday. The son of Vinery Stud-based sire All Too Hard (Casino Prince) was purchased by Bruce Perry for $65,000 at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale Platinum Session in 2015, before being bought by 888 Bloodstock for NZ$160,000 at the New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale in 2016. Demonetization was then purchased for NZ$220,000 at the 2016 NZB Ready To Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds. The six-year-old gelding is one of 19 stakes winners for All Too Hard and they are headed by Behemoth, Alligator Blood and Forbidden Love. All Too Hard will stand the 2021 season for an increased fee of $33,000 (inc GST), having stood last season for a fee of $27,500 (inc GST). 

 

Splintex returns to form in Hall Mark Stakes
Splintex (4 c Snitzel - Acquired by O'Reilly) had not landed a race since his victory in the Arrowfield 3YO Sprint Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) last April, but the Mark Newnham-trained son of Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) snapped his long losing streak when he returned to form in the Hall Mark Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m). The four-year-old is out of the Group 2-placed O’Reilly (Last Tycoon), making him a half-brother to Listed winner Invictus Salute (Exceed And Excel). The colt’s second dam, Procure (Centaine), and she in turn produced Group 2 winner Hips Don’t Lie (Stravinsky) - the dam of Group 3 scorer Ennis Hill (Fastnet Rock), Listed winner Lake Geneva (Fastnet Rock) and Acrobat (Fastnet Rock). Splintex is one of Snitzel’s 108 stakes winners and he will stand the 2021 for an unchanged fee of $165,000 (inc GST). 

 

Atishu lands second Listed win
The Stephen Marsh-trained Atishu (3 f Savabeel - Posy by No Excuse Needed) followed up his last-start victory in the Inglewood Stakes (Listed, 1600m) at Riccarton on April 10 with a win in the Warstep Stakes (Listed, 2000m) at the same track on April 24. Purchased by Go Racing for NZ$260,000 at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale in 2019, the daughter of Savabeel (Zabeel) is out of dual-winning mare Posy, who is herself a sister to three-time Group 1 winner Daffodil. Waikato Stud-based sire Savabeel has sired 113 stakes winners in total and he looks firmly on track to be crowned New Zealand’s champion sire for a seventh time, sitting over NZ$1 million ahead of his nearest rival Per Incanto (Street Cry). 

 

Canterbury Gold Cup to Beauden
Last seen winning the Awapuni Gold Cup (Gr 2, 2000m) on April 3, Beauden (6 g Bullbars - Belle Femme by Zeditave) followed up that win with a victory in the Canterbury Gold Cup (Gr 3, 2000m) at Riccarton on Saturday. The Team Rogerson-trained six-year-old gelding defeated Hypnos (Reliable Man) by a quarter of a length. Beauden is one of two stakes winners for Bullbars (Elusive Quality), with the other being Contessa Vanessa. 

 

French Group 1 winner Olmedo opens Australian account
The 2018 Poule d'Essai des Poulains (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Olmedo (6 h Declaration of War - Super Pie by Pivotal) landed his first race in Australia when he took out the Tails Stakes (Listed, 1630m) at Doomben on Saturday. Trained by Annabel Neasham and raced by a syndicate which includes the Fung Family, the six-year-old came into the race having finished 17th in the Doncaster Mile (Gr 1, 1600m) and he beat Reloaded (Snitzel) by a head. Olmedo is one of seven Group 1 winners by former shuttler Declaration Of War (War Front) and they include 2019 VRC Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) Warning and 2019 Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) winner Vow And Declare. 

 

Second stakes win for Cryptic Love
Cryptic Love (5 m My Admiration - Abitcryptic by Bletchley Park) added a second Listed race to her record when she took out the Sheila Gwynne Classic (Listed, 1400m) at Ascot on Saturday. A winner of the Pinjarra Classic Handicap (Listed, 1300m), the five-year-old mare comfortably beat Tycoon Storm (Written Tycoon) by a length and a half. The mare - who was purchased for her trainer David Harrison for $30,000 at the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale from the Western Breeders Alliance draft in 2017 - is one of two stakes winners for My Admiration (Encosta De Lago), who stands at Westbury Park in Western Australia. 

 

13th Group winner for Rulership
Shadai Stallion Station-based stallion Rulership (King Kamehameha) sired his 13th Group / Graded winner as Dirndl (5 m ex Grunewald by Special Week) landed the Fukushima Himba Stakes (Gr 3, 1800m) at Niigata on Saturday. The five-year-old mare won her first black-type victories in the Marguerite Stakes (Listed, 1200m) and Aoi Stakes (Listed, 1200m) in 2019. Rulership has sired 18 stakes winners in total, headed by top-flight winning pair Kiseki and Mer De Glace, who landed the 2019 edition of the Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m).

 

Second stakes win for Pogo
Having landed the Midsummer Stakes (Listed, 8f) at Windsor last July, the Charlie Hills-trained Pogo (5 h Zebedee - Cute by Diktat) opened his five-year-old account with a victory in the King Richard III Stakes (Listed, 7f`) at Leicester on Saturday. The son of the late Cornerstone Stud resident defeated Mums Tipple (Footstepsinthesand) by a length and a quarter. Pogo is one of 12 stakes winners for Zebedee, who died in 2019. 

 

Second Group 3 for Best Of Lips
The Andreas Suborics-trained Best Of Lips (3 c The Gurkha - Beata by Silver Frost) added a second Group 3 race to his record when he took out the Dr Busch-Memorial (Gr 3, 1700m) at Krefeld on Saturday. A winner of the Preis des Winterfavorite (Gr 3, 1600m) as a juvenile, the three-year-old son of The Gurkha (Galileo) defeated Mythico (Alderflug) by three-quarters of a length, while Lord Charming (Charm Spirit) was a further two and a quarter lengths away in third. Best Of Lips is the only stakes for The Gurkha, who stands at Coolmore Stud in Ireland.
