Nephradiva makes winning debut at Albury
Newgate Farm-based first-season sire Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon) chalked up his fifth first-crop winner on Monday as the Nick Olive-trained Nephradiva (2 f ex Nephtys by Redoute's Choice) made an impressive winning debut over 900 metres at Albury.
The two-year-old filly showed an impressive turn of foot to beat Case Closed (Valentia) by an emphatic four and a quarter lengths, while Stella Siren (Shaft) was a further length and a quarter away in third.
Purchased by his trainer for $40,000 at last year's Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the Torryburn Stud draft, the filly is fourth winner out of the dual-winning Redoute's Choice (Danehill) mare Nephtys and they are headed by Listed-placed Runforit (Street Sense).
The filly's third dam stakes-placed Starshine (Bellypha) - the dam of Listed winner Classic Day (Coronation Day).
Further back this is the same pedigree as Group 1 winner Star Shiraz (Sequalo) and Savatiano (Street Cry), who landed the this season's Canterbury Stakes (Gr 1, 1300m) as well as her stakes-winning half-brother Athiri (Lonhro).
Nephradiva's sister was purchased by Koolman Bloodstock, Pfieffer Racing and B Hogan for $75,000 at this year's Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
Nephradiva's joins Hi Hi Hi, Vienna Cruise, Keith and Winning Verse as the stallion's other winners, while his first-crop also includes the stakes placed filly Bolsonaro. He is one of five first crop stallions to have sired five winners in Australia this season, Shalaa (Invincible Spirit), Flying Artie (Artie Schiller), Frosted (Tapit) and Maurice (Screen Hero) the others with Capitalist (Written Tycoon) sitting on eight and Star Turn (Star Witness) and Sooboog (Snitzel) both having sired seven winners in Australia to date.
