Blue Sapphire Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) winner Ranting (Zoustar) will make a surprise return in the Tobin Bronze Stakes (registered as Euclase Stakes) (Gr 2, 1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday after he pleased co-trainer Troy Corstens with soft win a 800 metre jump-out at Werribee on Monday.

The son of Zoustar (Northern Meteor) has not been seen since he finished eighth in the Incognitus Stakes (Listed, 1100m) on March 6, but Corstens said Ranting pulled up from that run with a back complaint that took time for the three-year-old to shake.

"It was great to see him back on track," Corstens told Racing.com.

"He pulled a muscle badly last start down the straight and it's taken a fair while to get him back on track. He hasn't been out of work and the guys at home have done a hell of a lot of work on him."

Ranting will run in the Group 2 and depending on the performance, the colt could then head to The Goodwood (Gr 1, 1200m) on May 15.

"He'll float over on Thursday and run in the Euclase and if he runs well in that, which we expect him to, then we'll try to get him a run in The Goodwood," Corstens said.

"He hasn't lost his ability. You've just got to make sure that you can get them to get back to that stage (Blue Sapphire form) and that's where we think we are at the moment.

"He's going to take a lot of fitness from this run. We did get a little behind on him as far as fitness goes having the break in between.

"We couldn't do a lot with him trying to get his back right. A lot of manipulation and rehab and a lot of treadmill work.

"He's had some good, sharp gallops now going into Saturday but he's going to take a hell of a lot of improvement from the run.

"Craig (Williams) knows him very well and he was very happy with him. We thought we had him back on track after that run down the straight, but Craig alerted us to him not being right.

"He said he felt like he was a Rolls Royce for the first part of the gallop at Moonee Valley and over the second half he was like he was in a Camry, so we knew he wasn't spot on.

"But today he (Williams) was extremely happy with him and he thinks his action is back to normal and that he's ready to go."
