Newgate Farm’s first season sire Capitalist (Written Tycoon) sired two debut winners on Friday taking his tally of winners to 11.

Capitalist’s first winner came when the Toby and Trent Edmonds-trained King Kapa (2 c ex Emmalene by Jet Spur) won over 1106 metres at Grafton. Leading at the home turn, King Kapa pulled away to score a two and a quarter length victory over Golden Eighty (No Nay Never).

Bred by Belinda Bateman, King Kapa was bought for $50,000 by Sterling Bloodstock at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Newgate Farm.

Shortly afterwards, the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained Sky Castle (2 f ex Fawcett by Stratum) won the Miss Finland (1000m) at Muswellbrook. The filly led early and raced greenly, heading over towards the stand side in the straight, but was good enough to hold on to score by a length from Dawntillarvi (Dawn Approach), with another length and a half back to Dungassen (Smart Missile) in third.

Sky Castle is raced by Bert Vieira after being passed in for $250,000 at last year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when offered by Widden Stud. She becomes the first winner out of Treppes (Domesday) who is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner and now Widden Stud-based sire Trapeze Artist (Snitzel).

It was announced earlier in the week that Capitalist would stand the 2021 breeding season for a fee of $99,000 (inc GST). The son of Written Tycoon (Iglesia) sits at the head of the leading first season sires table in Australia by both earnings and winners with his prize money totalling $2,825,578, almost $250,000 ahead of his barnmate Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt).
