High-class mare Sweet Deal (6 m Casino Prince - Dorothy Evelyn by Royal Academy) added a fourth Group 3 to her record when she landed the Hawkesbury Crown (Gr 3, 1200m) - a timely update for the daughter of Casino Prince (Flying Spur) ahead of her selling at Friday’s Inglis Chairman’s Sale.

The John Thompson-trained Sweet Deal had not saluted the judge since her victory over 1300 metres at Newcastle on November 14 and she returned to winning ways when beating Jen Rules (Redoute’s Choice) by a length and a quarter, while Air To Air (Smart Missile) was the same distance away in third.

In winning the race, the six-year-old mare has now won 11 of her 42 starts which has seen her accrue $1,479,320 in career prize-money and she will be offered as a racing and breeding prospect by Newgate Farm as Lot 58 https://inglis.com.au/sales/info/2021+Chairman%27s+Sale/catalogue/58 at Riverside Stables on Friday.

“She is a lovely mare, if someone does purchase her as broodmare you won’t see a better type anywhere in the land, she is a magnificent horse.’’

But Thompson said if Sweet Deal is sold, it would be his recommendation to keep her in training for a Brisbane campaign, with the trainer believing races like the Dane Ripper Stakes (Gr 2, 1300m) at Eagle Farm on June 12 and the Tattersall’s Tiara (Gr 1, 1400m) at the same track on the June 26 would be ideal options for the mare.

“I would take her to Queensland,’’ Thompson said.

“There are races like the Dane Ripper Stakes and the Tatt’s Tiara where the speed is on, they are over her right distances and she would be well suited.

“I was confident today. I even said to Nash (Rawiller) before the race she is back to her best.

“We had a couple of cracks at 1500 metres which isn’t really her go, she prefers it around 1300 metres -1400 metres.

“So, we freshened her up and came back to her right distance today and she returned to form.

“I haven’t had many runners at the Hawkesbury meeting over the years so it’s satisfying to get this big-race win with Sweet Deal.

“She’s been a good mare in a lot of ways and she holds a special place in my heart.”

Craig Rounsefell’s Boomer Bloodstock purchased Sweet Deal, who was bred by Pip Cooper, for $67,500 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in 2016 from the Lincoln Farm draft.

“Her race record speaks for itself, she’s a winner of almost $1.5m now, four stakes races and the $1m The Hunter but what will really attract buyers’ attention when they see her is her physical,’’ Rounsefell said.

“She’s just the most outstanding type, you don’t really get mares that are a better physical than her so I expect she will develop into an ultra-successful broodmare in time.

“She’s being offered at the Chairman’s Sale as a racing and breeding prospect – I would think the Group 1 Tatts Tiara in Queensland next month would be the ideal race for her so prospective buyers are getting a fabulous specimen with so much upside with Sweet Deal on Friday night.’’

The mare is out of three-time winner Dorothy Evelyn (Royal Academy), while further back this is the same family as Group 3 winners Dance Beat (Esperanto) and Throne Inn (King Of Kings).

Sweet Deal is one of 18 stakes winners for Vinery Stud-based sire Casino Prince, who will stand the 2021 season for an unchanged fee of $5,500 (inc GST).
