Rosemont Stud has announced the 2021 fees for their six stallions with the roster headed by Shamus Award (Snitzel) who will stand for an increased fee of $33,000 (inc GST).

The son of Snitzel (Redoute's Choice) has enjoyed a fantastic season on the track and Media Award's victory in Saturday's Australasian Oaks (Gr 1, 2000m) provided the stallion with his second Group 1 winner, joining dual Group 1 winner Mr Quickie. That pair are two of 12 stakes winners for Shamus Award, who has four crops of racing age.

"Shamus Award has really had quite an amazing last 12 months," Rosemont Stud's Ryan McEvoy told Racing & Sports on Monday.

"From April last year he's sired eight individual stakes winners, six Group winners including two Group 1 winners and I think only Written Tycoon has bettered that, from all Victorian stallions.

"He's certainly entitled to a fee increase and the fee increase to $30,000, plus GST, is an acknowledgement of what he's achieved over the last 12 months. I think he's the leading stallion on stakes winners to runners and I think that's an important number that we scrutinise quite strongly."

New addition, stakes winning and Group 1 placed juvenile Hanseatic (Street Boss), has been well received by breeders and his 2021 book is close to being full. He will stand his first season at stud for a fee of $17,600 (inc GST) and McEvoy believes that the Rosemont stallions have been priced fairly.

"It's been quite unbelievable really. We had a lot of early bookings to our stallions prior to releasing our fees," he said.

"That said, I think we've priced our stallions really well. It's been interesting to sit back and analyse the competition and see where some land. We are one of the last farms to formally announce our fees and I'd like to think that our fees are recognised as really fair.

"A horse like Hanseatic perhaps could have stood for a little more and the initial interest in him would suggest that but he's launching his career off a full book. He's almost full now and the support and popularity in a horse like him has been unbelievable. The interest from all the right breeders in a young horse like him has been really satisfying.

"All in all, I think we've got a good deal of momentum with our young stallions at the moment and thankfully the breeders have come back to us since we've announced and been really supportive."

McEvoy said that they had received good interest from not only Victorian-based breeders but interstate breeders.

"We had a look at the bookings for Hanseatic, for example, and it would be a 50/50 split from breeders based in Victoria and breeders based interstate. Interestingly, we've probably taken 25 to 30 bookings to Shamus Award today and they are from breeders who are predominantly Hunter Valley-based.

"I think it's a great endorsement that we have stallions who are not only appealing to local breeders but that have caught the eye of breeders Australia wide."

Shuttler Starspangledbanner (Choisir) returns to Rosemont this year and will stand for a slightly reduced fee of $16,500. He is another who has enjoyed a good year on the racetrack with his progeny headed Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) winner Millisle who became the second Group 1 winner for the son of Choisir (Danehill Dancer) and is one of his 16 stakes winners from relatively small foal crops.

"He's had a great 12 months with Millisle winning the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes and being crowned Champion 2YO Filly in the UK," said McEvoy. "She joins the likes of Ahola Star, Brooklyn Hustle, Prime Star, Anthem Alexander, The Wow Signal and Home Of The Brave.

"He was raised at the farm and breeders can use him with confidence with his fertility at a good rate now of 72 per cent or so."

The roster is completed by Strasbourg (I Am Invincible), who covered his first book of mares last year, and Nostradamus (Medaglia d'Oro) who will stand for unchanged fees of $11,000 and $5,500 respectively, while Starcraft (Soviet Star) will stand for a Private fee in 2021.
