Second stakes win for British-bred son of Leroidesanimaux

The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Le Don De Vie (5 g Leroidesanimaux - Leaderene by Selkirk) landed his first race since he arrived in Australia when he took out the Warrnambool Cup (Listed, 2350m) on Thursday.

The five-year-old gelding began his career in Britain for Andrew Balding, for whom he won four starts, including the August Stakes (Listed, 1m3.5f) and he finished second behind stablemate Steel Prince (Nathaniel) in last year’s Geelong Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) on his first start in Australia.

Raced by a group of owners which includes Ozzie Kheir, the gelding finally got his head in front on Thursday when he defeated Heart Of Puissance (Puissance De Lune) by two and three-quarter lengths, while Moonlight Maid (Puissance De Lune) was another length and a half away in third.

The gelding was purchased by Balding for 50,000gns at Book 2 of the 2017 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and was then bought by Kheir, Group 1 Bloodstock and Howson and Houldsworth for £460,000 2019 Goffs Ireland London Sale.

Le Don De Vie is out of six time-winning Selkirk (Sharpen Up) mare Leaderene, who is herself a half-sister to Listed scorer Lucidor (Zafonic) and Group 1 winner Lady Marian (Nayef) - the dam of Group 2 scorer Loxley (New Approach).

Le Don De Vie is one of 25 stakes winners for Leroidesanimaux (Candy Stripes) and they are headed by two Group 1 winners, including former Arrowfield Stud shuttler Animal Kingdom.
