Third stakes victory for Fastnet Rock gelding
Irish-bred gelding Inverloch (7 g Fastnet Rock - Ideal by Galileo) chalked up his third victory at stakes level when he landed the Wagga Wagga Cup (Listed, 2000m) on Friday.
Trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young and raced by OTI, the seven-year-old gelding stayed on well to beat Spirit Ridge (Nathaniel) and Yonkers (Medaglia d’Oro) - who dead-heated for second - by a quarter of a length.
A winner of the Mornington Cup Prelude (Listed, 2000m) and Easter Cup (Gr 3, 2000m) last year, the son of Fastnet Rock (Danehill) has now won nine of his 35 starts and accrued $716,119 in career prize- money.
“He’s just a grand old horse,” Busuttin said. “About three years ago he won a (benchmark) 78 2000 at Swan Hill and I thought that was his go but he’s just kept on winning.
“OTI great supporters of us, great supporters of the industry, good to see them win. Great to come to New South Wales, great for the stable, great for the owners.”
The gelding is one of four winners out of the winning Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) mare Ideal and she is herself a daughter Group 3 winner Tarfah (Kingmambo) - the dam of multiple Group 1 winner and now successful Coolmore Stud-based stallion Camelot (Montjeu).
In winning the Listed contest, Inverloch becomes Fastnet Rock’s 17th stakes winner in Australasia this season and they are headed by Group 1-winning trio Avantage, Personal and Rocket Spade, while the stallion has sired 173 stakes winners in total globally.
Inverloch is also one of 21 stakes winners and 13 Group 1 winners bred on the hugely successful Fastnet Rock / Galileo cross and they include eight Group 1 winners; Unforgotten, Rivet, Zhukova, Qualify, Age Of Fire, Intricately, Magicool and the aforementioned Personal.
The son of Danehill will stand the 2021 season at Coolmore Stud in the Hunter Valley for an unchanged fee of $165,000 (inc GST).
