Group 2 winner Glenfiddich (Fastnet Rock) is on the road to recovery following his tendon injury and connections are hoping the son of Fastnet Rock (Danehill) will be back on a racecourse in the spring.

The three-year-old was set for retirement and a career at stud after suffering the injury earlier this year during his run in the Coolmore Stud Stakes (registered as Ascot Vale Stakes) (Gr 1, 1200m), but connections have had a rethink with the three-year-old going through a second round of treatment on his tendon.

Part-owned by Edinburgh Park, stud manager Ian Smith said connections are thrilled with the way the horse is completing his rehabilitation.

"Everything is going very well. You can't actually even tell he's had the bowed tendon," Smith told Racing.com.

"All going well, he is just starting his second lot of exercise … and he's got to have three rounds of that. All going well he should be back October/November.

"He's a very well-behaved horse. When you have tendon injuries with stallions, they tend to get a bit heavy and out of control.

"But this guy has got a good head on him, he hasn't got too heavy, he hasn't got away from us. We are very happy to keep him as an entire.

"We are very confident we can get him back and winning races."

Trainer Peter Moody, who has always held a high opinion of the horse, will get Glenfiddich back if he passes all the required vet checks.

"He has untapped ability. Of course we are swimming against the slow a little bit in terms of getting this horse back to 100 per cent, but I think even at 90 per cent he is a pretty good horse," Smith said.

"We aren't jumping ahead of ourselves. We are doing everything right by the horse.

"He needed to have the rehabilitation done anyway for longevity. But we are giving him every opportunity to get back to the racetrack.

"He will tell us when he's ready. Peter is keeping a good eye on him in Victoria. All reports … is that he's going very well."
