Cadenabbia scores second career win at Warwick Farm
Cadenabbia (3 c Redoute's Choice - Griante by Good Journey) chalked-up the second win of his career and first win for trainer Annabel Neasham when he landed the Darley 2021 Roster Handicap (1300m) at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.
A winner of one start for former trainer Chris Waller, the colt was having the fifth start of his career and second for Neasham and he came out on top of a ding-dong battle up the straight, beating is former stablemate Fastconi (Nicconi) by a head, whole Impressive Lass (Real Impact) was a further two lengths away in third.
Neasham said the three-year-old has always shown ability despite an up-and-down campaign.
"He's a beautiful son of Redoute's (Choice) that has always shown a bit at home," she said.
"It's just been a frustrating preparation, last start at Newcastle seems a long time ago, but the team have done a great job getting him here in good shape.
"He was a little bit soft coming into today, so he'll take nice improvement and I think he's a nice horse to go through the grades."
Purchased by Aquis Farm and James Bester for NZ$800,000 at Book 1 of the New Zealand Bloodstock National Karaka Yearling Sale in 2019, the colt is out of 2016 The Galaxy (Gr 1, 1100m) winner Griante (Good Journey), who is herself a three-quarter-sister to fellow elite level winner Grand Journey (Good Journey).
Earlier this year, Spendthrift Farm purchased Griante's Pierro (Lonhro) filly for $550,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and last spring she produced a colt by Arrowfield Stud-based sire Dundeel (High Chaparral) and has most recently been covered by his barnmate The Autumn Sun (Redoute's Choice), meaning the resulting foal will be a three-quarter sibling to Cadenabbia.
