Five-year-old Prophet's Thumb (I Am Invincible) was due to retire following her last start in Robert Sangster Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m), however, the Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained mare will be given another chance to gain a valuable Group 1 victory in Saturday's The Goodwood (Gr 1, 1200m).

The daughter of I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) will face ten rivals on Saturday, two weeks after she finished seventh in the Robert Sangster Stakes.

Raced by a parternship that includes Bell River Thoroughbreds after failing to make her $150,000 reserve at the 2016 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, the mare has now won five of her 26 career starts to date with her biggest victory coming this season in the Rubiton Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m).

Brad Taylor, racing manager for the Freedman training team, said Prophet's Thumb should have bowed out a Group 1 winner, or at least, Group 1 placed. He said Craig Newitt erred in coming off the fence allowing the winner Instant Celebrity (Not A Single Doubt) the rails when coming from behind Prophet's Thumb in the Robert Sangster Stakes.

"If she was Group 1 placed or a Group 1 winner last start, she wouldn't be here," Taylor said.

"We didn't have to run here but she came through her last race so well, we thought it was worthwhile to have another throw at the stumps before she is retired.

"There is no harm in giving her one more run. She's in really good order and if she can get a bit more luck on Saturday, it may be her chance to feature in a Group 1."

Taylor said Saturday's race may not be a vintage Goodwood, but noted the quality at the top of the field.

"Behemoth was in good form during the spring and autumn, but is coming back to 1200 metres and obviously Gytrash is there but is coming back off a set-back.

"I don't think it was the original plan until a few weeks ago, so he might be vulnerable, but he is a very good galloper.

"If he turns up in 90 per cent order, he's going to be very hard to beat.

"It would be nice if we could get a bit of luck.

"She's going very well this preparation, even though her form card might not show that, but if you look at all her runs, they've been super."
