Lloyd's Crown reigns at Sandown Hillside
Glen Eden Stud-based sire Rebel Dane (California Dane) sired his second winner on Wednesday when Lloyd's Crown (2 g ex Mahogany Room by High Rolling) won the Clanbrooke Racing Handicap (1000m) at Sandown - Hillside.
Having his second career start, having finished second on debut at Pakenham on May 12, Lloyd's Crown beat Along The River (Written Tycoon) by a head, with Rambeau (Brazen Beau) another two lengths back in third.
"We were quite confident that he would run a good race at his first start and I was quite happy to get $8 a place," trainer Rebecca Waymouth said.
"He's a very unassuming sort of horse and everytime we've asked him to do something he's just improved.
"(Brother) Rowan galloped him on Thursday and was really happy with his work.
"It's very hard with two-year-old races as everyone has a spruik on their horses, but I was really happy with the improvement he had made.
"Today he was a lot better in the barriers, jumped a lot cleaner."
Bred by Hill Home Lodge, Lloyd's Crown becomes the fourth winner, from as many foals to race, out of the winning mare Mahogany Room (High Rolling). His second dam is Tabura (Sir Tristram) who produced seven winners headed by Perth Cup (Gr 2, 2400m) winner Cardinal Colours (Chief's Crown).
Mahogany Room was covered by Rebel Dane again last October.
Rebel Dane's fee at Glen Eden Stud is advertised at $8,800 (inc GST), up from $5,500 in 2020. He covered 36 mares during his first season at stud in 2017 and 31 the following year and his first winner was Subterranean who has now won twice and was last seen taking out the Ken Russell Memorial (Gr 3, 1200m) at the Gold Coast on May 8. Trained by Matthew Dunn, the colt is due to line up in the BRC SIres' Produce (Gr 2, 1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
