Satin Ribbons breaks her maiden at Newcastle

Newgate Farm’s first season sire Capitalist (Written Tycoon) sired his 17th winner on Saturday when his well-bred daughter Satin Ribbons (2 f ex Satin Shoes by Flying Spur) won the Australian Bloodstock Maiden (900m) at Newcastle. 

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Satin Ribbons won her first three barrier trials and then finished second behind Volcanic Rock (Hinchinbrook) on May 3 in a trial over 1050 metres. She finished second on debut over 1000 metres at Illawarra on May 15 and on Saturday defeated Ultra (Not A Single Doubt) by a nose with I Love Lucy (Maurice) the same distance back in third. 

Bred by Mrs Belinda Bateman, Satin Ribbons is out of Silver Slipper Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m) winner Satin Shoes (Flying Spur) who has also produced Listed winner Satin Slipper (Pierro). Her second dam is Group 1 winner Star Satire (Volksraad) who produced eight winners including dual Group 2 winner Zarzuela (Zabeel) who is herself the dam of Group 3 winner Serious Satire (More Than Ready). 

Satin Shoes was covered by Widden Stud’s Zoustar (Northern Meteor) last October. 

Capitalist is sitting just behind stablemate Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt) in the leading sires table by earnings in Australia while he leads the table by winners, four ahead of Star Turn who has sired 12 first crop winners in Australia.
