Asherla breaks her maiden at Kempsey on Sunday

The Kris Lees-trained and Australian Bloodstock-raced Asherla (2 f ex Heritage Lane by Charge Forward) provided her Darley-based sire Astern (Medaglia d'Oro) with his eighth first crop winner on Sunday when she broke her maiden over 1000 metres at Kempsey. 

Placed in two of her three prior starts, Asherla recorded a one and three quarter length victory over three-year-old gelding Just Ziggy (Denman) with another three and a quarter lengths back to All A Lady (Albrecht) in third. 

Asherla was bought by Adam Parker for just $6,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale from the draft of Yarraman Park and following Sunday's victory her prize money totals just under $20,000. 

Astern now sits fifth in the leading first season sires table in Australia by winners with that table headed by Capitalist (Written Tycoon) who has produced 17 winners so far in Australia. He will stand for $16,500 (inc GST) at Kelvinside this spring. 

He has sired two winners from his first USA-bred crop, with Sail By (2 f ex Fly By by Johar) winning on debut at Belmont Park on Friday, while Mainstay (2 f ex Vero Amore by Mineshaft) won on June 4 at Monmouth Park.
