In winning Saturday’s Crown Perth Plate (1000m) at Belmont Park, Beads (2 g ex Sopaffina by Exceed And Excel) became the 14th winner for Vinery Stud’s first season sire Star Turn (Star Witness).

The gelding recorded a victory of a length and half over Storm Commander (Rommel) and his sire is sitting second in the leading first season sires table in Australia by winners behind Capitalist (Written Tycoon).

Meanwhile at Rockhampton, Flying Artie (Artie Schiller) notched up winner number ten when Lasco (2 g ex Pergram by General Nediym)  won the Butler Partners Maiden Handicap (1300m). The gelding beat Ask Me Again (Sooboog) by a neck with Calpurnia (Holy Roman Emperor) the same distance back in third.

Flying Artie is third in the leading first season sires table in Australia by winners and he occupies the same position in the table by earnings.

Flying Artie's barnmate Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon) sired winner number seven when Ranveer (2 c ex Bitter Twist by California Dane) broke his maiden at his second start. The Matt Laurie-trained colt, a $200,000 buy by his trainer at last year's Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale scored a three quarter length victory in the Cranbrook Racing Handicap (1000m) at Sandown-Hillside.

Winning Rupert's progeny include the stakes placed filly Bolsonaro.

Defcon (Choisir) meanwhile recorded winner number three when Conismo (2 g ex Amaranda by Fasliyev) broke his maiden over1300 metres at the Gold Coast.
