Trip to Queensland on the line for talented four-year-old mare
A Brisbane campaign will be on the line for Enchanted Heart (Shamus Award) when she runs in the Takeover Target Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Gosford on Saturday, with Kris Lees expecting the wet-track to bring out the best in the daughter of Shamus Award (Snitzel).
The four-year-old mare landed a race over 1100 metres at Canterbury on April 7, but she was last seen finishing down the field in a race over 1200 metres at Randwick and Lees put that defeat down to the dry track.
"She was caught wide and the firm track, that was probably the bigger factor," Lees said.
"But I'm really pleased with her and now she gets soft ground, I think that's the key to her, finding the right tracks.
"It's a good option for stakes company for her.
Lees' focus is firmly on Saturday's assignment and Enchanted Heart's performance there will determine if she earns a spot on his winter carnival team for Brisbane.
"We've always thought she could make winter stakes grade and she looks like she's found the right race to give her that opportunity," Lees said.
Enchanted Heart has been nominated for the Kingsford-Smith Cup (Gr 1, 1300m) and Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 1400m) in Brisbane in the coming weeks.
