A total of 2,302 horses have been nominated for the 2022 Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m), to be run at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday 19 March.

The number of entries for the 66th running of the iconic race is the third highest in the event's history and up 69 horses on last year's first nominations.

Leading Stables from across Australia and New Zealand have nominated considerable numbers led by Ciaron Maher Racing with 132 entries.

Other leading trainers and stables with the largest number of nominations include Godolphin (105), Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott (91), Mick Price Racing & Breeding (88), Chris Waller Racing (82), Annabel Neasham (79), Ben & JD Hayes (61) Hawkes Racing (60) and Richard & Michael Freedman (54).

Sires with the highest nominations include I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) (123), Zoustar (Northern Meteor) (100), Snitzel (Redoute's Choice) (99), Capitalist (Written Tycoon) (98), Written Tycoon (Iglesia) (69), Deep Field (Northern Meteor) (68), Russian Revolution (Snitzel) (66), Pierro (Lonhro) (64), Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) (55), Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo) (54) and Sebring (More Than Ready) (53).

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering James Ross said the Longines Golden Slipper remained amongst Australia's greatest races and the one that shapes racing and breeding like no other.

"It is pleasing to see such a strong number of nominations and in particular the growth again from last year's total which reflects the ever-growing popularity of the Longines Golden Slipper,'' Mr Ross said.

"The significance of this race on bloodstock value is unparalleled – for example this year the top 20 yearlings sold at public auction are all in the nominations, with a collective value of $28.3 million.

"We thank the many thousands of owners for their support and wish them the best of luck on the journey towards the race they most dream of winning when they first buy a horse.''
