Having his second career start, Daichi (2 g ex Ausbred Friend by Manhattan Rain) won Thursday's Pirtek Central Coast Maiden (1200m) at Gosford to become the eighth Australian-bred winner for Arrowfield Stud shuttler Maurice (Screen Hero).

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Daichi, who had finished third on debut over 1000 metres at Muswellbrook on July 2, scored by a length over Spitfire (Pierro) with another three lengths back to Retrieval (Medaglia d'Oro) in third.

Bred by Chris Lawlor, Daichi was a $105,000 purchase at the 2019 Inglis Australian Weaning Sale by Randwick Bloodstock Agency and Rushton Park from the draft of Fairview Park Stud. He was then bought for $110,000 the following year at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale by Triple Crown Syndications.

The gelding is the first winner, from two foals to race out of Ausbred Friend (Manhattan Rain) who is a half-sister to multiple Group One winner and Hong Kong champion Able Friend (Shamardal).

Maurice will stand at Arrowfield Stud for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST). He did not shuttle last year but covered a book of 69 mares at Arrowfield in 2019 when he stood for $27,500 (inc GST).
